I'm planning to ask Michelle (Flossie's KC award trainer) if there's any possibility of one to one (or, with Floss there for a 'refresher';-)) one- to- two sessions. She's not a dim dog by any means, I'm certain she *is* trainable, but you're right, the longer they leave it the longer it will take to instil some manners.

Wanda has started being a nuisance at night. A couple of times (for example if we have had an evening out so she might have spent several hours shut in the kitchen with little chance to be with us between us getting home and going to bed) we have let her sleep upstairs on the landing, where she has a bed for daytime use anyway. Now I know dogs don't get 'just this once' and they are either allowed to do it or they are not but I am very keen that Wanda sleeps in the kitchen most of the time because if it becomes the norm that she sleeps upstairs it will be impossible to ever get her to sleep in the kitchen, which we'd want her to do if we had guests staying for example.
Recently (apart from Mondays when she does agility so she is so tired at bedtime she doesn't care where she sleeps) she has grumbled, cried and barked at being left in the kitchen but eventually been quiet. Last night she woke us up continually. I went down at 4am just to see if she needed to go in the garden (which she didn't) but didn't let her upstairs and the fuss continued. At 8am (so after it was light and thus daytime) she was allowed to go wherever she wanted in the house... she went upstairs for a bit to make a point but is now snoring her head off in my study while BaronBR and I can hardly keep awake. Our plans for going to Norwich today have been abandoned!

Naughty Wanda! She will get the message if you stick to your guns, but dogs are great at recognising the thin end of the wedge :-)

Interesting BBL. I have occasionally let Ernie sleep in my room for similar reasons (or because I have dozed off unintentionally and then CBA taking him downstairs). However he has never had an issue with being crated in the kitchen downstairs (at home). He is a bloody nightmare if we are away though - he whines in the early hours of the morning if crated in the kitchen at my Mum's or my sister's.

Flossie met son1's Hattie for the first time today. It must have felt, to a 14 week old pup, that she was meeting a giant :-) She was quite scared and kept running behind son1 to put him between her and Floss. Floss attempted a game (we 'met' outside their house, which is just steps away from a really nice walk on footpaths across fields) but Hattie squealed and ran away so from then on Flossie ignored her. When we got back indoors Hattie got a little bit braver, but I was surprised at how worried she was. I think all of our dogs have been older before meeting adult dogs other than their mother, so perhaps this is normal? Anyway she's off to doggy daycare for a few hours on Monday so she'll have to get used to other dogs pretty quickly!

She's still like a little teddy bear :-)

Your sister is being a bit cheeky, LD, considering it costs me £20 per 24 hours to send Rory to stay with his trainer, you’re saving her an awful lot of money having Lottie for 6 weeks. I think it’s perfectly reasonable not to agree to have her again until they spend some of it on training her!

Poor Hattie. I guess every dog is different. At 14 weeks Ernie would have met my friends dogs and chased them around her garden. He also met Bisto next door who was infinitely patient whilst Ernie hung from his ears.

Anyone else’s dog extra ‘sniffy’ at present? Tuss is loving foraging around in the fallen leaves and has done more pointing (back leggies especially - where it looks like he’s pulled a hamstring heart) than I’ve ever seen :-)

My daft dog is sitting on the lawn, refusing to come back in, watching the fireworks.
He is also very "sniffy" - as there are pheasants everywhere, trying to escape from local shoots

I’ve never seen Tuss as agitated as he’s been tonight. He hates the noise of fireworks. I was going to take him out for a car ride then had the genius (well, straightforward) idea of putting some music on. He’s asleep with me now on the settee
