Aww, is that someone’s slipper she’s eating??
D’you know why vets recommend a season? I vaguely know male puppies need testosterone for their bones. Is it the same kind of thing?

She's gorgeous.
I'm not sure what to think of early spaying. What effect does it have on their hormones?

It is one of their current slippers - apparently not chewing them (yet!), but just likes cuddling up to them
I don't know why, to be honest, but I've always assumed it was something to do with hormones. In the days before keyhole surgery, I think it was also because the major surgery was probably best coped with by a more mature dog. The first article that Google brought up was a fairly hysterical rant about taking little puppies away from their mother to carry out the operation, but that bit doesn't bother me (hard-hearted, moi?) The RSPCA seems to be sanguine about it, but then I'm not sure how much confidence I have in the RSPCA these days.
When we bought Flossie, we had to sign a chit to confirm that we would not breed from her, but I've no idea how the breeder would know if we had, especially if we didn't register the litter with the KC.

So sweet.....
I doubt the thing you signed was worth the paper it was printed on LD as you say how would the breeder know....and the current popular Labra-doodle. Labra-Staff (or Stabrador as I think Sharkie/Raffo has called them which I think is brilliant) or Designer Labra-anything-but-dor wouldn't be KC registered anyway.
Wanda had been spayed by Battersea before we got her - she was somewhere between 7 and 10 months at the time. I think if we had got a younger puppy from them there would probably have been some sort of condition/contract that it would be spayed (perhaps with Battersea paying our vet to do it I don't know) but I don't think they would do this at younger than 6 months.

Hattie is adorable. I don't know anything about the ins and outs of early spaying but my gut reaction was one of shock...she seems very young to have had it done already.

This weekend while I was Gt South Running Flossie and Lottie went to stay at a home boarder (as distinct from boarding kennels.) I am very pleased to say it went very well from Flossie's point of view. The lady posts photos and videos on her FB page showing the dogs on their walks and at home and it was clear that Floss was very much 'at home' with her and her own 11 year old Lab. We'll definitely use her services again.
Lottie was a different story When we collected them yesterday Sue, the boarder, said that Lottie 'was very hard work' - she'd woken them barking at 4:30am each morning (I suspect the milkman or similar had disturbed her) but worse, she'd been very bad around food - they'd had to shut her out of the room while they were eating because she was such a nuisance. I was a bit surprised by that - she's inclined to appear close to your lap when she's here but we immediately send her away, and Floss never bothers us, so Lottie doesn't persist. The interaction with her day-boarders was a bit on the rough and tumble side too - she has poor social skills, because my sister has made no effort to instil any.
I'm going to pluck up courage and say that the six weeks we'll have her from the end of January to early March, is the last very long stay I'm prepared to have her for, until they train her properly. She's not a 'bad' dog, just an untrained one, and the excuse of 'only a pup' no longer holds water (she's over two.)

Over 2?? How did that happen. I've said it before but why on earth did they get a dog.

You may well ask HP
I had a text from my sister just before they dropped her off for this stay to say that they've decided to go off to their apartment in the Alps within a couple of days of their return from Norway. I felt she was waiting for me to say 'leave Lottie with us til you get back then.' What I did say was 'You're taking the dog of course?' 'Oh yes'. Hmm.

Oh dear LD. Training Lottie at that age out of her bad habits might not be easy either. Are you able to instil any training into her during the long stay (even though it may not last very long when she goes back home if they don't keep it up?)
