Poor Jet. Rory was not happy earlier, but the bangs seem to have stopped now and he’s asleep on my lap. (It must be very tiring for them, he’s usually still rampaging round being a pain at this time.)

Poor Jet and poor Mr. I would agree that the dog needs some reward for giving up a trophy whether it's a treat, some fuss/praise if they like that, or even getting the trophy back (or a different toy).
Our village Fireworks (organised display) took place on the field at the end of our road and it was like being under siege in a bombing campaign. We had the telly up fairly loud (not loud enough to drown out the bangs and the house shaking though) but managed to get Wanda focussed on some training so she was doing targeting and working with obstacles etc to go round, leg weaves and so on - luckily once she was concentrating on that she was able to accept that she didn't need to worry about what was happening outside but I think next year we will perhaps go out for the evening to somewhere a bit more remote!

do many people on here run with their dogs out in the countryside? Off the lead? on the lead? Mix of both?

I don't run with my dog Hohum, but I have a number of friends who do run in the countryside and they all use a sort of bungee lead round the waist.

I run with my Lab off the lead sometimes, as I’m confident she’ll return to my side when she’s called. Despite my confidence, I’d still keep her on a loose lead around traffic or livestock. That way my only exposure to potential incident would be if she rounded a blind corner before me, and found a small child holding an ice cream!

I run with mine on the lead, because he can't be trusted not to take off after a passing deer. I have a bungee lead with a waist belt like LD says.

I have always run with my dogs and always on a long line to a waist belt. I still "run" with current dog when I'm not injured. They are such company especially in remote countryside or on a very long run. I live on a farm and have seen what loose dogs can do so I never risk off lead even with the best trained dog.
