That made me laugh. It's easy to laugh when it's not your dog. Not so much when they are about to get in your car.

That dog is having the best day ever!
Rory was a right pain at Scentwork this evening. Or rather, Rory was Rory and I was absolutely not in the mood to deal with him.

My dog 'family' is about to get bigger. Son2 and his GF are re-homing an 8-9 month old Border Collie. GF has always said she wanted a rescue dog 'first' (I think the long-term plan is for two dogs) and she is very used to unsettled dogs as she has volunteered as a dog-walker at the local rescue centre for some years.
This dog is not from a rescue centre though. She just came across an advert on Gumtree . The pup started life with a woman in Exmouth, who passed him on to a family in Exeter at 3 months. The wife of the family was brought up with collies and is reluctant to part with him, but it was a bit of a crazy idea in the first place: she and her husband work full-time (shifts, I think) and they have four very young children including twins under 1 Not surprisingly they realise now that they just haven't the time (or indeed the space) a very bouncy collie needs.
I'm by no means convinced my two have the time either, and although they can both work from home fairly often they will need doggy daycare for him, which they haven't yet investigated locally. They do have a decent sized garden at least.
I really hope it works out. Son says he seems like a very nice tempered dog who was very relaxed around the children (including one who was pulling him about more than son felt was right). If they can find good daycare, perhaps with an agility area (I know there's one of those here which son1 is going to check out for *his* puppy) and get some decent training started quickly, it should be a happy outcome. Fingers crossed.

Gosh, lots of consideration needed before taking a BC into your life IMHO. I hope it will be ok

Agree with D. Any BC is hard work, the re-homed ones I've met even more so. Agree with you, LD: 'good daycare, perhaps with an agility area'. Collies are worse than GSDs for needing something to do ... so good luck to Son2 and GF!

I tried my hardest last night, while they were mulling it over, to sound not discouraging, but helping them to see all the issues, without being the bossy interfering mother I could so easily turn into!
Mazlin: you took on a pretty lively chap in Rory, and it works for you. Any tips?
