Ha ha ha! That last sentence made me laugh, BBL. George is exactly the same - he knows he shouldn't have that huge bread roll that he's found in his mouth but he's certainly not going to let me have it!

Wobbling in a winter wonderland
Mum sent me a message: she has workmen in and one of them left a slice of cold pizza on their Work box. Pippa, who has not stolen food in years, decided to try cold pizza. She apparently licked the toppings off and left the base, she evidently knew as a gluten intolerant dog, she should leave that bit. My mother is apparently quite embarrassed.

Helegant
Interestingly for me; I chatted socially with a vet today. She was asked about mince pies by another spaniel owner and asked what she would have recommended. "I tend to be quite old fashioned" she said as she suggested wait and see for most issues. (I quoted a certain dog I haven't yet met and she did say that 1kg dried fruit for a labrador was "quite a lot".) She also blamed the litigious culture for over-treatment and over-anxiety among owners.

I think your last line is spot on Helegant. And there is probably an element in there as well of more people having insurance now whereas before people wouldn't have been able to afford to run to the vets without waiting and seeing for a bit.

Mazlin
My friend’s Sproker puppy jumped onto the dining table and stole some grapes the other day. Her vet suggested they wait and see as he seemed fine and they didn’t think he’d eaten many (he’s 6 months and about 12kg, so not tiny), so they did, and he is fine...this time (this is his second trip to the vet, the first time he stole fruit and nut chocolate, just to cover all the bases of poisonous foods.)
