I haven't used home boarding but suspect Alice is right. The kennels we use (which Wanda has only spent one night at a time in) explained to me that dogs don't think about it like we do - as long as their 'needs' are met eg food, walk, warmth, bit of affection/attention they are happy enough.

Perhaps the closest to that is a friend of mine who rehomed a dog which came to her direct from his previous family with no time in kennels in between and who didn't know my friend's family before this, he did spend some time looking for 'something' which she assumed was his old owners and was at first a little unsettled by his change of environment but he seemed relaxed enough about it during his first couple of weeks with them... so yes I'm sure even in a different environment your two will be fine especially if they are with the same boarders they have been to before.

We are actually using a new boarder. The regular one is very busy and the main house isn't that big. There's a newish one by us with really good reviews. They do boarding, day care and walkies. Essentially the dogs don't leave the grounds of the house during the stay, but they have a secure 10 acres of land to play on.

10 acres! Sounds great. We've not used a home boarder as such but Flossie's stayed with my sister for a week, and we have my sister's dog for up to five weeks at a time. They take a day or two but very quickly settle to the 'new normal'. I really do think it will be completely fine, Dave.

Wow - that sounds wonderful Dave. I wish there was somewhere like that Wanda could go to. We have opted to use a kennels because she remains on their premises at all times but a home boarder where also she didn't have to go out 'in public' would be perfect.

I tried to find that puppy programme that has been discussed on this thread recently but as I didn't really know what it was called (or indeed what channel or anything about it actually other than it was about puppies!) I just did a search for dog on the TV and ended up watching a Channel 4 programme called Rich Dog Poor Dog. The 'poor' dog was a Staffie called Chucky and I anticipated it being a programme about all the usual Staffie prejudices but actually he was an absolute sweetie and a huge credit to his breed. In fact he was so good that although he was meant to be the main focus it was his owner's other dog a female JRT that she wanted to breed from in order to pay off her debts that featured far more. But even the owner of the 'rich' dog (a Shih-Tzu called YumYum) - who was convinced before meeting Chucky that he would 'eat' her dog was filmed fussing him etc. Not an easy programme to watch at times but fascinating all the same.

Ooh, I haven't come across that one. The puppy one is on BBC2, and is called something like '10 puppies'. I think it's the third episode this week.

Hi all. So proud of Ernie today. We went to a pack walk which is organised by highland dog blog. There were 4 other dog owners and 7 dogs in total. Ernie had an absolute ball and was so well behaved. He recalled, played well with the other dogs and did me proud.

Ahh, well done Ernie! That sounds fun, it's a shame I'm a bit too far South for it (my dog is spoilt but I draw the line at travelling the length of the country to take him for a play date!)

There was a lady on the walk who was looking after a wee maltese/poo cross (I think). She has it for 5 weeks and when she went to collect it the owner had no lead :-o or bed :-o or water bowl :-o The owner suggested she didn't walk it off lead or in the rain. It was a nervous wee thing but soon found its confidence and loved its off lead walk in the rain. It's kept an eye on the woman the whole time. Even more worrying on collecting it, the daughter said I hate that dog and kicked out at it. Why do some people get a dog?
