Catching up on this BBC2 puppy program. Er, why do none of these people appear to have done ANY research before getting a dog?

Probably because you're only chosen for programmes like this if you're terminally thick, Maz. Although you could say that the strange woman who wanted a giant dog on her bed was at least doing some research - but I didn't get a good feeling about her having a long and happy relationship with any dog despite her 'research':-(

I was puzzled by the Golden Retriever puppy who wouldn't walk. I've never seen that behaviour in a puppy before.

Ernie did similar on very early walks LD. He wanted to go home. If we did a loop he'd refuse to walk for the first half and then drag me the second half. I used loose lead and lots of rewards. He found his confidence after a week or 2.

I saw a bit of that programme last week and thought the cocker and the retriever were both suffering from sensory overload and needed a bit of peace. I hope that the programme has helped some other dog owners to understand their pet's needs and maybe to think about what kind of pet they can cope with.

Actually, the couple who adopted that slightly older rescue dog were relatively sensible as far as I remember. I take back my blanket judgement of the entire program :-)

Ah yes was that the week before? The chap whose retirement was taken up with securing his rather lovely garden so the dog couldn't escape? I too withdraw my 'terminally thick' comment in regard to them.

Hello. I've seen a couple of posts here before about this but need to ask.

We've used home boarding for 3-4 days max before. We are away for 13 nights in October with dogs in home boarding. I know to any question I ask the answer is "They'll be fine." What experience is there on here if longer stints of home boarding?

Sorry Dave I can't help. We've never actually left Ernie for even 1 night.

Your dogs will be fine, you'll miss them more than they miss you!

We've left Charlie for a week twice now, we get daily updates/photos and he seems to enjoy his holiday as much as we do. I think as long as they're fed and exercised and given plenty of cuddles, they're happy enough.

Prepare to be licked to death on your return though 😃
