DT I would say if it's in a mug you drink it (thinks sat watching snow hands wrapped around mug!) but a bowl of soup is eaten?

I think it depends on geographical location, a bit like whether you call a bread roll a bap, barm, teacake or whatever. I think of soup as something you eat, irrespective of how watery it is.
