Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I don’t think you imagined a 1k minimum for rundle, if I record less than a k I don’t get any numbers!

Pam runs
When i played seriously, i had a minimum distance of one mile. I have been known to plan a route, run it then change watch to walk and walk the same route in reverse. Then have a cycle round to get 5 points

Thankfully i don't play seriously now. 😁

…and a bit of tactical short activities to protect key squares

RunRuss thanks for clarifying & no offence was intended, just a look at a tactical player.
When conducting 'tactical short activities' posting lots of very short run/walks on the same day, how does it work? Do you drive to different locations, hop out and back? Cycle to them? Or Star Trek beam to them?
I'm being competitive this round, nailing my 31 squares daily. Just need tips for how to beat you if you’re in the final with me!

When I was playing seriously I had the same tactics as Pam runs - run a 3 mile straight ish rout, walk back and then do an out and back on the bike. It got me to the quarter finals.

My locality necessitates a lot of out and back routes, which isn’t very efficient for WSW, so I will occasionally do a route running in one direction, walking back, which seems fair enough. I haven’t quite worked out the cycle one way, swim back yet 😁

None of that for me. Even when trying to win. Walk first thing. Run later. Cycle when needing more squares. Usually off grid once a week if not twice, QFs best.

I just run (when I can - not very much at present) and walk where I feel like it, occasionally looking at the grid before I go out to see if there's any particular squares that would be good to hit. Don't own a functional bicycle.

Kept me in and around the top 10-15 for a while with a handful of multiplayer quarter finals and one semi final.

57.5 Degrees of Pain
Here is the training from the semi final and final of my multiplayer win, against the extremely strong Swimslowrunslow.
The semi used longer runs and walks to focus on parts of the grid in a more typical tactic, with no biking as it was icy. Final mostly involved biking on the safe (non-icy) bits of my square and switching between running and walking whenever I encountered an out and back so as to get credit for everything.

Units are miles so <1km was rare. I used a phone app which saved activities for upload sequentially so it was simple to reset and choose activity type at each turnaround.

Occasionally used the car to vary my starting point but usually only when I'd picked up the dog (moved grid from home to work as far more squares were accessible).

57.5 Degrees of Pain
The last two weeks of hot weather have been too much for our middle aged dog. So recent swapping of walks and runs have more to do with giving her a break, only running in the shade, and stopping at a stream. This has coincidentally got me further in Multiplayer than in a couple of years (guess where the woodland is situated by looking at the current multiplayer map!).

13 sessions in one day
Holy macaroni, that's a lot.
Looks like it's pretty tactical at the top.

In the words of the late, great Roy Castle:
"Dedication, dedication
Dedication, that's what you need
If you wanna be the best
If you wanna beat the rest
Oh-oh dedication's what you need"
