The last time I gave blood, was also the first time I gave blood - about this time last year - and they very politely invited me NEVER EVER to go back - cos I had "such a bad reaction" (passing out and wasting all their time) - I've got naturally very low blood pressure so they didn't have to take very much out to upset things - I was really upset about it (my mother has done it for 25 years). BUT I tried it at least - it just isn't suitable for every body.
Though I did feel a lot better when they shouted over "is this your husband?" - He's 6foot4 and 15stones, but this tiny little nurse managed to catch him and lay him down gently on the floor - he had no excuse, they'd took his blood ok - he was walking over for his squash and bickies - but then he saw a needle (doesn't like needles) - but he's been back 3 times now.

Right, just to refute the info I posted a few posts back. It's 12 weeks between donations but there is no annual limit. I thought I'd read 3 x per year was the max, but it's not. As long as it's more than 12 weeks, then if you can squeeze 4 into the year - go for it! I'm gonna give tomorrow, now that I'm in my taper and I can take a whole evening off running!! :-)G

Le Greg - new improved recipe
I am forbidden from giving blood because I spent more than 12 months in the UK between 1980 and 1996.

Not for a few years now. Must get myself down there. At my old office they had a mobile unit that used to set up next door - we'd give blood then go straight to the pub (you get p&ssed very quikcly and easily!). I also had a strange spell of doing a brutal circuits workout as soon as poss after - I used to have this strange theory that it was like training at altitude and would have a huge benefit....

About 10 days ago -apparently earlier than normal as they were short of O neg blood (as usual). Number 68 I think. At 50 donations you should get a badge and a nice pen, mine was a nice Shaeffer ball point in red box with National Blood service on pen engraved "50 donations" they took a polaroid and all clapped. I'll don't know what I get at 75 -that shou;d be about 2 years away
