I'm banned until December. I might just buy myself a whole box of Tunnock's tea cakes just to make myself feel like I'm giving blood! G

I'm booked in for 23rd December so that shouldn't interfere with any racing.

Had hoped too yesterday, but have ben diagnosed with hypothyroidism since I last donated - whilst they've said this won't in itself stop me, they won't take your blood if your medication is still under review (i.e. until the GP is confident you're on the right dose). The 6 month review is due at the end of the month, so provided that's okay I should be able to donate again next time.

Well done Sigh.
It was good this time, more or less on time, the nurses not under so much pressure and able to take time to share a joke, unfortunately it’s probably due to holidays rather than any increase in funding

The arrangements for blood donor sessions are so difficult that I'm a bit surprised the service ever gets new people in. I feel that if ever I break the cycle, I shall never get it going again.

If its any consolation it is much improved since i started giving. You used to turn up for an appointment and could up waiting a long time as they would do first come first served. We used to be bused in from our office (by the blood service) and staff would end up walking out after the 2nd hour of waiting. They used to have lots more beds and staff then. Now sessions seem smaller staffed but better run.

FurryH: To be fair, the actual process of giving is now much better: it's reliably under the hour, complete with regulation TUC biscuit (now reinstated after an absence). And the booking process works, although I have had sessions cancelled even after getting to the centre. But I find it's a difficult process to get back into, if you miss one (eg by being on holiday). I need a slot at the end of the day, and those fill up quick. But you can't do what I did as a newbie and just turn up cause everyone gets told there are no slots. And I would guess a lot of regulars started that way. "I'm here to give my much needed blood - oh you don't really need it then" might be the impression people get. Which is a shame if the service doesn't get "fresh blood" and people are put off a 100% satisfying thing to do.
