My 17yo son, who has Downs Syndrome, has always run somewhat reluctantly with us. But during lockdown, and reflecting his age, he's been itching to demonstrate that he's more responsible and grown up by going for runs on his own.
Yesterday he declared to us an ambitious run which we imagined he'd shortcut, but no - he ran it all, as planned, without any of us accompanying him. We were proud enough of that, but then he put his own comment onto strava which left us beaming.
Still smiling now.
