57.5 Degrees of Pain
Having recently become fascinated by the early Stewarts (Scottish school history ignored everything between Bannockburn and Mary Queen of Scots, but it's an even racier soap opera than the better known Stuart sequel in the 17th century) I wonder how many more decades the History of Britain podcast will continue. The better known arc or English history will be lengthy enough without loads from Scotland and plenty from Ireland and Wales too. |

He's a fulltime podcaster so it's his job. I think he'll just keep going. He does concentrate on "english" history but he doesn't ignore Scotland, Wales or Ireland. THey get mentioned and included where the paths cross, and they get their own episodes where they concurrent history gets covered. I suspect there'll be more Scottish history as things progress and the conflicts and allegiences develop. |

57.5 Degrees of Pain
As far as I've got (post Roman) there is not a lot of recorded Scottish history to include. But as you say, the tangled webs of Medieval history will involve a great deal of conflicts and allegiences. I assume there will be a lot of French connections too as the Normans taking over England morphs into an English claim to much of France and the Scots getting involved in the ménage à trois. |

Started listening to Season 2 of Harland on the Limelight podcast. That'll do for my Halloween fair.

I got that through from the Limelight stream but I'm not going to bother. Too much in the queue already!

Following yet another recommendation (I think it was The Times over the weekend), I made a *third* attempt to listen to SmartLess last night. Another failure. Managed about five minutes this time so my tolerance for it is increasing.

Another series of “Within the Wires” is running at the mo. If you’ve not come across it before it’s an audio drama series but told through the gimmick of “in universe recordings”. Previous series have been meditation tapes, dictaphone recordings, journal entries, museum audio tours etc. It’s all set in an alternative present day(ish) where history diverged from ours around WW1 when a combination of war and disease almost brought civilisation down. I really enjoy the series. It’s interesting the way you find more out about the world bit by bit as background info to the stories being told. Worth a go if you haven’t already. |

Has 'Our Fake History' had a recommendation here? Entertaining look at the truth behind historical stories.

Can we circle back to SmartLess I'm worried I'm in a minority of one in not liking it. Ordinarily I'd just try and coax Nell into giving it a go but he's up to his backlog in backlogs. |
