There were just under 2k red FGFA numbers allocated, and about 90% of them finished. I think they said about 38,000 people collected their numbers, I guess the 5,000-odd who didn't were injured/ill.

A 10% DNF rate from that population surprises me. This is a group who have at least one, probbaly quite a lot more, decent marathons under their belt already. OK, they may be pushing the training boundaries a bit harder and be carrying niggles, but in general know their body and its limits and so would either not start, reset goals or iflike me just grit teeth and finish as fast as was feasibly possible despite old war wounds flaring up !
A similar DNF stat for Elite , Champs and Club would be interesting

That must mean that apart from 250 ish celebs and hangers on, all of green are also GFA.
IIRC there wasnt previously a red FGFA and all GFA were on green, but maybenumbers grew and the FGFA was born

I don't think they are DNF, Bazoaxe, but mostly DNS. They allocated almost 44k numbers, but only 38k started, as far as I recall, with 37.5k-ish finishers. I don't think there's a way to tell the DNS from the DNF in the stats, but I will have a look.
There was roughly 10% drop out on green and international, 5% on championship, and 20% on the remainder of blue and red.

So there were apparently 247,069 ballot entries.

So about a 1 in 12.5 chance of success based on 20,000 ballot places. Not good
I have a guaranteed charity entry for next year as I've just discovered but I'd rather raise money on my terms, not their's.

I understand when capped at 120,000 entries it was a 1 in 9 chance
I think you underestimate the number of charity places.
I guess about 1 in 18

More like I over estimated the number of ballot places. Whilst it should be applauded the amount of people who run and the amount of money raised for charity through the VLM, they do push it to the point of harassment imho.
