Lizzie, post card at 50 miles for LEJOG.
I can see that people might join a free challenge and not do it, but odd to pay and then not even start

I agree - I find the idea of not finishing.... well I don't like it.

I'm actually in a difficult position at the moment. I've got a dodgy back that is gradually getting better but if I'm going to start running again I need to be doing that very very gradually. Last week I did a run / walk with 5 reps of 40 second running. Then my thinking was 2 rest days - by which I thought, no running = rest. On those 2 days I did 3.5 miles walking each day. Then I did my next run, again 5 reps of 40 seconds.

That was all too much and has set me back a few weeks.

So if I want to get back to running then my rest days need to be a lot more restful than walking 3 miles. If I want to complete this challenge I need to average 2.5 miles per day.

My current thinking is that I'll concentrate on this challenge and increasing my walking. But I know that when I get back to walking 3.5 miles with no pain I will want to start trying to run again.

I'm really not sure what to do, but thinking of not completing this challenge does not sit well, but neither does not trying to get back to running.

I'm just going to take it week by week for now. This week I'm just going to be walking, probably the same next week. Maybe I'll continue like that until I catch up with the mileage and maybe get a little ahead so that I can afford more rest days with no miles.

Sorry - long brain dump.

It’s an awful predicament Elsie too. It must be terrible when walking is painful too. If you rest properly and heal would you be able to walk and run a little further in time, building back up slowly!

Just take it one day at a time, don’t be worrying about the end just yet!

Sorry to hear that Elsie.

My thoughts, for what they’re worth, is to rest as required and walk when possible, slowly building back up.

Every step is a bit towards it and if you don’t rush your recovery there’s still a lot of yr to catch up in.

I’ve just added today’s run and it takes me to 69.8m with 800.2 to go!!

If only I’d checked my mileage before I went out lol

If walking isn't too uncomfortable, a little bit of walking might help? I wouldn't worry about getting back to running, there's plenty of time for that. Sorry you're struggling though :(

Sorry to hear this, Elsie. I would support the approach of flexing your rules and allowing yourself to log some walking. But of course, that's not the most important thing - do look after yourself!

Thanks guys for all the support.

I am logging my walking and you are all right that there is time and I just need to not rush it - so hard to be patient though!

I agree don't rush walk when you can and rest when needed. Bad backs are horrid I suffer on occasion.

When mine flares up I find a stick on heat pad makes being on feet easier. Got me through a fair few working days.
