Thanks JCB, I will take a look. [BTW I found it really easy to give up meat, haven’t eaten it since December and not once have I missed it, seriously edging towards vegan but think giving up cheese might be a struggle]

I was a big cheese eater but it hasn't bothered me at all. Ten months in now and there's no going back.

That's great Mrs Jigs! Joopsy, same here. Really enjoyed cheese, but not having it hasn't been a problem. Two and a half years for me. There are also many fine substitutes for cheese that can be bought or made. Lots of them cashew based. There's also a book that I've heard of but not seen, "This cheese is nuts!" that has a lot of non-dairy based cheese recipes, as well as some desserts. |

I am going to have to try some non dairy cheese, I think it’s the move to vegan is on the cards, mind you it although It has been 10 months only just admitted to being vegetarian. I use soya milk but have avoided tofu and the like as I am not sure about using it as a substitute, I really enjoy veg and nuts, I often fall back on eggs for a meal so that might be tricky too.

For me going from cow's milk to soy milk (only really in my breakfast) was probably the biggest jump, and it turned out not to be that difficult. I went from omni to vegan without an intermediate step. I just had the motivation and couldn't in good conscience continue the way I had been eating. Tofu seems pretty versatile and good at picking up flavours. Also coconut milk in a red lentil curry became our new favourite. You can hopefully pick up some marinated At times I was a big egg eater, but that waxed and waned. Haven't really missed it. Occasionally I feel like having a scramble. There is a tofu scramble that can cover that pretty easily. |

(You can hopefully pick up some marinated tofu/tempeh/seitan... it's pretty easy to use vital wheat gluten for a hearty meal.)

I should blog this maybe but... I told my boss in work this week that I'm looking to quit at end of academic year. I'm an experienced business lecturer. Long story short I can't do public sector a second longer. I do a good job, I think, and hope I help the kids and offer a different perspective but is not enough. I can be happier and, hopefully, make a more positive difference. So I'm putting together a business plan for a vegan convenience store. Basically imagine going shopping once a week, no going from shop to shop and/ or searching or checking ingredients. Everything you need in one place and a focus on zero waste too? Easy access and customer parking. You may have that already. In My area? No! That's what it's going to be. Called 'Kind Earth'. Why am I telling you lovely lot? I would love if you can complete this survey. I know you're most probably not local to me but can still help a lot. Also feel free to message me or comment on here if there is anything you'd love to see stocked in such a shop or, vice versa, anything you wouldn't. Or even if you'd like more information on anything I have planned. Thanks. Peace. surveymonkey.co.uk |
