The Hoka rep is doing a demo at my club tonight. I am taking a pair of ATR Challengers out for a run.

It's probably just my weirdness. Don't get on at all with Inov-8.

I can't cope with the stiff soles on Hokas. I have a pair of Altras and they are really weird (worn once... for sale...).

Flanker, did you change shoes at Dalemain on the LD100?

Nope, I had a second pair of 212s and the RUs in the bag, but stayed in the original 212s. Feet were n pretty good condition at the end from what I remember (unlike the rest of my legs!).

I think I had a few little blisters where grit had got i that i couldn't be bothered to remove, and I lost a couple of toe nails as I hadn't lead them tight enough for the first downhill.

However I do manage my feet quite a lot both in the build up, ensuring they are baby soft with all hard skin removed, and then during an they are used to spending the day wet. I took off shoes and socks and aired my feet and put on fresh socks at all three major CPs (Braithwaite, Daelmain, Kentmere).

Thanks Flanker. I might try gaiters to stop grit. Sock changing sounds like a good move.

I've always been a "tough it out and if I can't walk for a week or four afterwards so be it ultraer", but (for me) 100+ of Lakeland hard trails that's not possible

Hi - just going to start following this forum nice and early - considering my first ultra as Race to the Stones 2017 - keen to get as many tips as possible in the lead up!

Jacdaw - if you do go for gaiters, it might be worth shopping around. I bought some of those "Dirty Girl" ones and they are effectively useless, the Velcro just falls off your shoe after a few miles. My wife rates her Inov-8 gaiters and they do seem very good.

I have dirty girls, and the velcro always fallls off. I'm told that if you stick the velcro on with shoe gu it helps, so I might try that. I might look at the inov8 ones too.
