Also have a look at FR945/FR955/FR965 which are the plastic equivalents of the Fenix series. I think they are a bit cheaper.

For me there were 4 things I wanted the last time I upgraded :- 1. full colour mapping with paths, contour lines, etc 2. turn by turn navigation, not just breadcrumb trail 2. multiband GPS for best accuracy 3. battery in multiband GPS mode of up to 20 hours I wasn't bothered about Amoled screens I went for the Garmin FR955, as it is quite a bit lighter than the equivalent Fenix, and also quite a bit cheaper - although there's no Sapphire Glass option, and I've picked up a scratch on it from a fall. |

I have the Fenix 6X, as well as good battery life and decent mapping, the other function I use a lot is contactless payment. Really useful to know that I can stop at pretty much any shop and not worry about cash. obv depends on if your bank supports it...

The garmin pay is something I wouldn’t be without now either , as Sam says it’s really handy if I’m out on a long run and don’t need to rummage around my pack to find my phone .. as far as I know in the UK it’s only supported by Santander but a running buddy set up an account just for running snacks 😂😂😂

There are more banks supporting it. I have a Starling account I set up just to use it but it’s really good and use it more than just for my Garmin now.

I use Garmin Pay a lot too, and initially I thought it was something I’d never use. Even paying for busses on the albeit rare occasion I’m bussing somewhere and running back, using public loos, stopping for an ice cream(!). I also have Fenix 6x Pro, and I really like it for mapping, long battery life and Garmin pay. I know many watches have mapping, but I use this a lot if I am in an unfamiliar place and want to run from where I am staying. I had an issue with the charging cable on mine, and replacement cables developed the same problem where it seems like there was a connection issue, which wasn’t resolved even after cleaning. I asked on here and I got a ‘puck charger’ and so far that is working well. |
