I’ll recommend you a book instead, originally recommended to me by Matt Sears formerly of this parish. Apologies to the several people on this site for whom me recommending it is a recurring experience: amazon.co.uk |

I have holidayed in Weymouth. Most pleasant indeed, lots of downtime although did slip in an easy lap of the 70.3 course and a couple of sea swims. It marks the end of base training and the build phase of 8 weeks begins. Back on it like Gromit from today. Swim and some VO2 Max on t'watter already today. Lunchtime will be testing the TT: it is now a 1x, with a 58 tooth front, front mech removed and chain guide installed. Looks bangin', lots of E2 and fast B course action over the next 2 months. I'll re-convert back to normal mode from July as the hilly stuff starts. It will, of course, be utter filth with no fast days for any of these rides....;-) |

Morning all 45 mins mostly riding in Zone 2 - Atom and Android tablet worked perfectly for the first time, gears, HRM everything. Add to that my body is improving. Training rather than passing time may be about to start (to a point) |

I raced it in 2016 as well (5hrs 2 mins). Swim: loveliest sea swim I've done in UK by far, water lovely and clear. Beach is stony at the top end (where we start) so disposable flip flops/slippers you don't mind leaving behind are worth bringing. You can see the bottom for ages, if it's not rough it will be a glorious swim but if it's sunny you will be swimming out towards the sun around start time and sighting is difficult. Bike: A real mixed bag. Lots of rolling terrain passing a few chocolate box villages, some technical bits, some rougher roads, couple of moderate climbs just after halfway, plenty of descending in the final third which brings the ave speed up. It's definitely not a quick course, but not a climber's course either but the rollers add up to over 1000m. TT bike definitely though. 1 big loop so not really worth having family etc spectating, they may as well stay in town. Run: pan flat 3 loops of the promenade, you may have swerve around the odd holidaymaker but other than that perfectly straightforward... Other thing to note is that start/transition 1 and 2 is just over a mile from finish/registration/expo/briefings/rolldown etc. Hope that helps.... |
