Yes. No prize money for the London NB category (winning time was 3h+). I'm conflicted about the prize money but providing a category beyond m/f feels right.

Well, here's an incredibly clear example of how transphobia hurts all women and is just another form of misogyny: https://www.sportingnews.com/au/olympics/news/imane-khelif-gender-eligibility-test-ioc-iba-championship/f36302ed5889c11046e5c704#:~:text=While%20some%20reports%20indicate%20Khelif,in%20a%20statement%20on%20Wednesday. Imane Khalif is a cis woman assigned female at birth who has always lived as and identified as a woman. Not to mention it's illegal to be openly trans in Algeria, and transphobic violence is common, so the chances of a trans woman being selected to represent the country are... let's say 'slim'. But, everyone knows women can't actually be *good* at things, don't we? So she can't possibly be a *real* woman 🤦🏼♂️ |

Hmmm, can't make the link work. Some extra info from it: the IOC doesn't recognise the International Boxing Association because it's mired in allegations of corruption, match fixing, hiding doping, etc, and refuses to specifically what tests exactly Khalif and one other female boxer 'failed' when they were suddenly banned from its competitions. |

sportingnews.com It's the extra bit after #:~text= that Google puts in when you do a search in it highlights the text that it found. Breaks Fetch's links. I have to say, as a man, feels really hard for me to comment, but my overriding thought is that no person who lives in a gender different to that of their birth does it for sporting benefit. It's a huge change and presumably, for most, incredibly hard physically and emotionally. But of course, if you are a woman in sport who then comes up against a competitor who was born male and has higher muscle mass and either high current or former testosterone levels then you are not competing on a level playing field. And in boxing that could actually be dangerous, receiving a harder punch than you've ever experienced before. My instinct is to support those who have had to undergo the incredibly hard transition of gender in any possible way. But it's not my place to say what the answer is for trans-women and cis-women in competitive sport. I can't think of an answer that doesn't hurt someone. Sorry, this really doesn't add anything to the convo. I just came to fix Rae's link! G |

I am confused by all of the different information out there on the subject, see this tweet https://x.com/sharrond62/status/1819069704134160786. Sharon is saying they are male due to chromosomes. Can someone explain if this is correct? As I see it, it's not a transgender issue at all, but then again my knowledge on the subject is minimal so happy to be corrected.

I don’t see it as a transgender issue either.

Without knowing exactly what condition the two boxers have it is hard to be specific, but the Science of Sport podcast from yesterday has a good summary of a typical DSD condition. I think specifically the condition affecting Caster Semenya.

People can have one set of chromosomes, but for some reason (because nature sticks its fingers up at rigid categorisation), they may only partially or never present as the sex associated with those chromosomes. novonordiskfonden.dk |
