The physio he say no running for about a week and then gently test the water. Minor strain, no lasting damage.

In the meantime, it was strangely useful to have a strained calf on the erg this morning for some 500m reps. Overcompress at the catch and the drive starts from the balls of the feet, which bothers the calf. Do it correctly with more of the foot flat on the plates and the drive works the quads and glutes ... good technique reminder :-)

Every cloud, Muttley. Be careful with it and heal well.

Watching the World Cup Rowing I: Belgrade on BBC Sport and notice all the rowers have a bit of a rounded back not the straight back you read about...

And despite that they're all miles faster than we are ... !

Yup, no running means more rowing. I've roared into 2nd place in this month's league. An hour's easy UT2 yesterday, this morning a slightly harder 30 minutes at 20 spm.

I'm no athlete but I do get grumpy when I can't run. What a good investment the rower is!

Pffft, if I'd known that I was that close behind Craggy I would have done a longer warmdown :-)

Muttley, my thoughts watching were it's probably not a despite but a strategy chosen because it's faster. There are extending too much from the catch (where the back is at its most rounded), and that would mean a stiffer position for transfer of power from the legs. Obviously not sure on the safeness of that for beginners but interesting to see. The GB crew in the 4 mixed coxed I'm watching seemed to straighten up more than the others I've seen at the back of the stroke.

Understand the grumpiness from not running. I find any solo aerobic activity can replace it. Playing a sport could (eg basketball) but usually if you can't run, you can't do that, or you can as short bursts mean you can play through but you're making things worse/ prolonging the issue.

*They aren't extending too much from the catch

I probably should start using the preview function, lol.

Nice one Muttley.

I've started the month with my first UT1 since the back pinged. 6 minutes at r20, and no problem at all with that. Progress!
