Well done Gus !
Next week, being the end of the quarter, is Personal Challenge Week in the gym and I'm hoping to set a new deadlift PB.

Excellent, gus - well done! :-)

I’ve done a couple of weights sessions in our resort gym while we’re on holiday. It does feel good being able to string something together with the available equipment.

Have yourself Musashi lil Christmas sorry for the delayed response, was off for hike in the Lakes that weekend and wanted to have a look at the Blagrove book before responding and haven't had a chance till now to properly look.

The chart I posted was from Steve Magness's book, science of running. Richard Blagrove has a chapter on planning training in his book which is quite detailed. The isn't a simple summary chart like in the Magness book but these two charts are about planning over a period. It does go into a lot more though.

Interested in your ideas about planning.

Started back with weights today, 2 x 5 of squats and deadlift at 57% BW, plus one set of 6 rollouts. Pretty easy and done in 20 mins. Got me thinking why don't I just keep at that level or slightly above through track season which would make winter a lot easier when starting back. Maybe DOMS will appear tomorrow to remind me why, but hopefully I've done light enough for it not to be severe.

No worries SPR. Hope you enjoyed the walking & your DOMS free. 2 things first:
Before going in to periodisation I’m wondering if this is the best place to do it as I don’t want to do the “bloke taking over” thing on this thread. I’d like to check regular posters are happy for us to go ahead first.
The training you did yesterday has similarities to the program I’m currently experimenting with. It’s called Easy Strength by Dan John & Pavel Tsatsouline, have you heard of it?

Have yourself Musashi lil Christmas cool.

Yes I've heard of Dan John and Easy Strength, probably some the stuff I seen from the having an unconscious effect. An 800 specialist (that was quite new to MD work that point) told me about it and has used it quite successfully.

This is the video he shared when he brought it up:

I doubt I'm the only other person here who finds this level of analysis and discussion interesting. (I might even have 'started' this round of discussion as SPR and I often talk about periodisation and fitting S&C work into athletics programmes.)

So do carry on as far as I'm concerned :-)

You did start it Shark the Herald Angel, I forgot how we got on to the topic.

Interestingly, I wonder whether strength training is what I was missing this year as I've not been consistent with getting it done when injured over the past two years (it seemed to help me return to peak quicker), I also didn't do as good a winter as normal due to playing basketball. Would like to do some basketball this year again but also want to build a solid weights foundation. Maybe training in an easy strength will help.

Oh and the talk of diet I think instigated by EvilPixie on here has probably had an impact as well, as I've made more of an effort to eat vegetables over the last couple of months as it was something lacking in my diet.

About This Thread

... a weights wire for women.

And in case you're wondering about that title, well, I like alliteration and one can be too po-faced about the use of girl/lady/woman.

Here's a strength standards for women thing Duracel found for us
