jdawayinamanger wrote: The tories have thoroughly exploded their reputation for competence and fiscal responsibility. It’s hard to see what they have left as a USP, given that there is an alternative far right wingnut party. The thing is, there's a huge constituency of traditional Tory voters who would not vote for the alternative far right wingnut party. They're broadly small 'c' conservative, don't like change, are fearful of the dreaded socialism, and have always voted Tory, sticking with them out of tribal loyalty even as the Tory Party has changed completely in recent years. They're not going to jump ship to Reform. And Starmer is trying to win them over to the Labour fold, trying to create the notion of a new broad church national party of government - but it would have to be a very broad church to encompass both these conservatives and younger progressives. No, I think the Tory Party will live on, as a pale shadow of their former selves, and will hope to slowly claw back voters on the Right. There will, however, be a period of internecine warfare first, which I have booked my ringside seat for and am very much looking forward to. |

Well there have always been those who won't vote labour because they are threatening to shut the food banks.... But yeah under-18s are ignorant and shouldn't have a say in decisions that they will have to suffer for the rest of their lives. |

Just received this Lib Dem leaflet, which is basically a ‘stop the Tories’ leaflet. |

This is a really smart piece. thecritic.co.uk I believe the author, Tom, is a former Labour advisor or something similar. |

This is also a useful Twix Thread. And goes into the heart of my issue with the "predict the number of Tory Seats" controversy. nitter.poast.org |

The Tories won't die if they get wiped out. As seen in Canada, it might take a while to recover, but recover they always do: politicshome.com |

The bookies best friend Philip Davies seems to have bet £8k on himself to lose. He doesn’t seem to be disputing the allegations. But compare the complete lack of action taken by Sunak as to Starmer against Kevin Craig. |

I heard a bit of the newsagents podcast in which they were saying that betting against yourself is a bit of a tradition that many have indulged in over the years in various types of elections. Maitlis used the term "hedge" if I heard correctly. |
