I haven't bought a popular music magazine since those little pamphlets of words to current pop songs that were published fortnightly in the 1970s (I also got my cousin's hand-me-down copies of Music Star).
Smash Hits for me too in the late 70s / early 80s. Initially their demographic was a bit older (I recall they had a compo to win a motorbike once!) before they went full teeny-bop after the New Wave / New Romantic eras.
Then I was an NME reader for many years, probably stopped buying regularly in the early 90s. Thereafter I would occasionally buy Q, especially for holiday reading. They often had a decent CD giveaway stuck to the cover.
Go for it Sharkie! I think that pop music can be somewhat sneered at by many what like to think of themselves as serious music oficionados.
As much as I like rock (heavy and prog), blues, soul, R’n’B etc. etc. I also loved the pop music of my youth. Herman’s Hermits, the Monkees, Olivia Newton John (especially pre Grease), Middle Of The Road and dare I say Garry Glitter! The list is pretty endless.
