KeithL - that rule change ref qualifying age affected me. I had a 3:55 qualifier as a FV50 but with the non guarantee entry I also had a 3:29 as a 49.75 (!) so used that instead as I was worried I was only 5 mins inside FV50 but 21 mins inside FV45 time (if that makes sense!).

I actually went on Run Britain rankings to see if more FV45 had run sub 3:30 than FV50s had run sub 4. I concluded that if there was a cut off I'd be much better going for the FV45 option (think that put me just outside the top 100 of FV45s). I concluded that not all of them would be applying for London so went with that!

Yep Jovi Runner - I would have taken the 21 minutes every time!

Will be interesting to see if everyone gets in again this year. Luckily I have a GFA - 18 mins so think can look forward to another day out in London

I think we should all just go and run VLM as fast as we can and worry about the other stuff later!

Baz - I think I'll drop down to 40 this week. Ran 60 last week, down from the high 60s - 70 that I have run this time around. I think it's largely irrelevant how much one runs this week / next as long as you can stay loose and not go mad. In the past I've tended to run more than is perhaps needed to keep me sane but so far I'm very relaxed about the whole thing and defo enjoying the rest!

Oh, and re P&D plans - I always completely ignore them in the taper period. TBH, I do think that if you're on a plan then you should follow it but I've always convinced myself that it's OK with 2 arguments:

1. my shorter distance times have been fast enough to support the mara time that I aspire to and so I don't need to to focus on speed, better to spend more time dialling-in MP

2. it's good to avoid the (slightly higher) injury risk of running intervals at 5k - flat out pace

Lots of different ways to deal with the taper. Wish I could lie on a sunbed in the garden right now but have a 9 year old on school hols to entertain!

I'm still trying to decide whether to defer or run VLM. I am now fully recovered from my hamstring injury and feeling good over distances up to 10/11 miles but not tried any longer than that since injury. I could just pootle round but really don't know whether I really want to do that.

Larks - no it's definitely 5*600s on the up to 55 miles a week one. No way would I risk a virtual 5k, aerobically a 5k at pb pace can wipe me out for days, easier to recover from a 23 miler at easy pace, any day. Also definitely carrying a niggle in the right glute for a week, so not feeling bullet proof. Rest is definitely the key.

Stratford course is proper flat with one hill at 8 miles, that is repeated at 18/19, as it's a 2 lapper, but the second lap goes further out on a gravel cycle track "The Greenway". I have been training on gravel tracks, they are not easy!

I've just checked my copy of P&D (on a kindle), definitely 3x1m in the penultimate week. Maybe they've changed it?

But I would definitely not be doing that if I felt niggly in any way - so you're right to skip it, whether it is 600m or 1600m reps

WW - that is good advice I reckon. Point 1 definitely applies to me. My 10k times point to a sub 3.10 pace which I will not even think about attempting.
