Yes i do have that belief too really, and will continue to do that, with some sprinkled speed on top for some occasional fun, as I have been doing last year. Don’t know if I’ll get up to 100miles, but I’ve been consistently around 75 and I guess that’s a start
LMH, did you ever managed to be a bit under 40 min on a 10k at your peak? Or did you ever try that?

@Bowman. I wholeheartedly agreed, talented people tend to underestimate the talent they have. They like to point out they work hard for their results.

Nice to hear Charlesvdw, it’s not just me then :). But of course they work hard, I’m not saying that they don’t. But with an other outcome perhaps

How long have you been running seriously for Bowman? For some reason I thought you were quite early on in your running career. If that is the case, you’ve done very well already, and I’m sure there’s more to come. It can take years to reach your peak.

It’s been a few years for sure, but I never really got better at that rate, but since I started to ramp up the training about two and a half years ago I started to see results.

With that crazy mileage tapering for your race becomes very important.
I'm not saying talented people don't train hard, but they attribute their succes to their hard training, while their talent is equally important.
Oh and being able to train hard and not get injured is also a talent.

I'm going to say it out loud.
I will try and break three hours in Berlin this fall. Target 2:59:xx.
In 2022 I ran 3:10 in Rotterdam, 3:03:52 in the Flanders' Fields marathon and 3:26 in Bruges (don't ask). In 2023 I ran 3:07:55 in London.
I got my PB running 50kms/32 miles per week for two months before the taper. Mostly easy mileage with some marathon pace during shorter runs. Never marathon pace in long runs.
Occasional strides during easy runs. No really hard intervals at 5k or 10k pace because I feel sore for days or get injured after sessions like that.
The idea is to run 65km or 40 mpw for the two months before the taper, keeping all else equal. But I'll have to be cautious being 49 and being prone to overuse injuries.

Yes of course I just wanted to be clear of what I meant About tapering, last time I went for two weeks before my marathon. Going from 120km weeks to 70% and then 50% of that up till the race day. I think 3 weeks that I did the marathon before that was too long. Yes, being able to get in mileage at the right intensity so you don’t over cook or get injured is kinda handy to for sure

Nice Charlesvdw, sounds like you are getting closer and closer with a great trend of better times behind you. And I won’t ask about Bruges And you seem to have come a long way at considerably lower mileage than me I guess you have better genetics than me or maybe a lot of training before that?
I’m still pissed off of my reckless try at Cph marathon, it would have given me something better to base my coming training on if I’d done something sensible. Now instead, I just question everything I done or do, but nothing have really changed. I still have training I’ve done
Until that I did a block of 16 flawless weeks of 127,5km on average per week. And 16 long runs of at least 20 miles.
And quite few of the last weeks hard mp sessions in the long runs.

When I did Bruges, the organisers said there was a risk of getting stuck the wrong side of a train crossing for a minute or so. Fortunately I was through, so that as good, but don’t know if anyone was held up. I love Bruges the city and enjoyed the event as well, but I’ve only done it once.
