My main tip - have a plan on how to spend your time between laps. Even a written checklist of food / drink / etc etc that you want, also with a priority depending on time. If you have 10 minutes between loops, how will you spend them? Only 5 minutes, what is essential?

See Debbie finished in 20th place. Formidable effort - no moaning about how warm our running is!

When I crewed for someone at a backyard ultra, they said what helped was treating him like a prima Dona. So he came in and sat down, then didn’t lift a finger. New socks? Someone took his shoes off. Pot noodle? Someone made one.

Moral of the story: take the help you are offered.

I listen to You g Hearts Run Free podcast.

This episode guest is Ultra Kazy, she does backyard ultras. I ended off meeting her at a yoga for runners weekend a few weeks later. Fantastic lady have a listen to her podcast.

podcasts.apple.com

We talked about running 24hrs as I had my big run coming up. One thing I remember her saying is when it gets tough, dark hours or just because she needs to switch off she puts her headphones on, she chooses to listen to a a favourite audio book so she can get lost in the story. I said I tend to listen to podcasts (YHRF) as the guys chat takes my mind off the wandering.

I’m sure Kazy is going the BYU in July if you see her talk to her the positivity and energy she has is amazing. You’ll find her on Insta, connect and I am sure if you were to message her she will reply.

Another one I heard different run completely but echos icenutters snippet was a lady doing Cape Wrath and she’d been told if you have support take full support let them do everything so you only have to run.

If you have crew, then they really need to know what to do... preparation is key to this. As an idea, this is the (first) sheet that Merijn had made up for him and his crew at the BY Masters the other month (The weisbier was a key part of it ;-) )

Have we got a cheat or an amazing new record at Badwater 135? Ashley Paulson - marathoninvestigation.com

Why would anyone ever cheat, it's just a mystery? Not easy to verify in ultras - pace varies massively, over the course and between runners. Don't know if there is good GPS signal the whole way. And with a support crew, you could swap it to someone else, you often can't see anything or anyone during night sections etc?

Velociraptor
I confess to having been ghoulishly following that saga, :) G, though the current situation seems to be that there are doubts but no direct evidence of cheating at Badwater.
