You know that business trip you've been angling for for the last few years....thanks to your fuckwitted incompetence I'm now available, so I've just been asked to go. Sorry. Not sorry.

My year in Italy is uneventful. The Caribinieri had no reason to come chapping at 0730 this morning, asking for our ID. Our landlady is a nice, retired old lady and not the ringleader of an organised jewellery scam lasting over decades and we are not the innocent tenants of one of the proceeds of crime.

[On the bright side, both criminal and civil processes are so slow in Italy that there is little risk of us getting evicted before we head back to Iceland anyway. I suspect we will struggle to get our 1800 Euro deposit back though.]

I'm not tempted to weep, thinking of the bike I could have bought with 1800 Euros. [Not that I would have bought a bike with it. But still. The potential!]

[Blimey, ITg. Hope you're right and you have time, getting evicted is horrible. I let somewhere through a letting agent, who didn't bother to forward the rent to the landlord, and the bank repossessed the place and kicked me out, lost deposit and all. Renting sucks sometimes.]

[We will be ok as at worst, we can move in with the in-laws. But I am pretty confident they cannot evict us within the 6 months we have left. We might not pay the last 2 months rent in lieu of the deposit but we need to get advice first. Fortunately, brother in law is a lawyer here in Italy. My Arctic law expertise is not all that useful down here.]

[Crikey ITG! Hope the judicial process moves as slowly as you hope and there's no time for you to be evicted. Sucks that you won't get the deposit back - fingers crossed that not paying the last two months may be an option]
