Yes runs scored or conceeded by the team could be measured as RPHB or by RPO. But RPHB for bowlers I think although statistically valid, is unhelpful |

Reason being if I bowl and over and concede 7 runs, we can compare immediately to my average economy rate (RPO) - let's say it's 5.45. Immediately obvious that I've conceded more runs than usual, but only 1.5 runs more. The RPHB comparison is 166.7 to 90.8. So small differences in RPO make big differences in RPHB. Which undo any usefulness. But for batters you've no choice other than strike rate as batters don't have to face a full over. |

[My original post asked about using a common metric. Runs per ball would do the job for both batters and bowlers without anyone needing to have it explained to them that batters don’t always face the whole over. Thus a 1.18 batter facing a 0.63 bowler would be an intriguing challenge. Honestly though, it’s not that important to me.] Coconuts. What are they about? |

Nico and I bang on for hours about this on the feckwag (FECWAG Fetch Everyone Cricket WhatsApp Group). 60 RPHB could be 60 singles or ten sixes. It needs a supplementary stat like baseball's AB/HR (at bats divided by home runs) to contextualise.

I think RPB similarly is too small a measure to give an accurate picture. SR and Economy are the right individual scales for what they demonstrate The "match-up" scenario you describe is an interesting idea but I'm not sure that it's as relevant in cricket as in other sports, no matter the niche stats that zaltmann comes up with on TMS. There's a really interesting bit in this book: Making Numbers Count: The art and science of communicating numbers amzn.eu Which is all about finding the right comparisons and scales to effectively communicate what it is you're trying to convey to people |

No. Absolutely no baseball stats in cricket, Grepper!! We'll have none of that glorified rounders nonsense in the great game. One could (and will) argue that whether you score runs in boundaries or singles is irrelevant. Unlike in baseball where you must get round to score no matter what. Different context completely |
