Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I learnt today that the ski-cabin I have booked for February will not have the usual use of the supporting mountain hotel's sauna, indoor pool, etc. because the whole hotel is given over to Ukrainian refugees 👍🏻

I don't understand wind. Like where does it come from? Why isn't it always (or never) windy? Does all the air move along in unison, or do particals bump into each other and thus only move a little. SO many questions!

I don't really understand weather in general. I also don't understand why (for example) San Diego isn't hotter than Los Angeles.

You're among friends here.

This has quite a nice explanation of winds, amongst other things. Worth following.

Since there exists the words less and fewer to be used in different circumstances, why does the word 'more' exist all alone?

When a person is batting, their scoring rate is represented by 'runs per 100 balls'. When a person is bowling, the rate at which they concede runs is represented by 'runs per 6 balls'. I understand how these have evolved, but not why they haven't thought about describing both via the same metric.

why does the government say prices need to show a break down but allow the same product to be given in different values like per 100g vs per packet?

and why doe cars have gallons of petrol but pumps charge per liter?

[re: Fetch. They're measuring different things. RPO is meaningless for batters as they may not face a full over. Similarly RPHB is meaningless for a bowler because they may only bowl a limited number of overs]
