i find it odd that, if true, the Russians are giving call up papers to some of those they've arrested in anti-call up protests. It might be a scare tactic to deter people from protesting, but why would you want to call up someone who has protested specifically about not wanting to fight? it might remove them from the protest scene but they're the last people you want in your front line.

Because they'll not put them in the front line. They'll brutalise the poor sods till the compliantly carry out some logistical functions to free up true believers for combat. It's the Russians, don't use western logic. |

Interesting to see how this plays out. Lots of Russian men of fighting age fleeing or trying to. And surprised to see that neighbouring countries, esp in Europe, are not rolling out the red carpet for them. Latest reports are of a miles-long tailback at the land crossing into Georgia ... and of the Russian authorities setting up a draft checkpoint there  I had to laugh at what one senior official said, about rats leaving the ship. She seemed unaware of just why rats would leave a ship ... |
