it's astonishing that the Russians have fallen for the old 'pretend we're doing one thing but actually do something else' trick. and it seems the Ukrainian's did nothing more sophisticated than tell a lie about where they were going to attack! Says a lot for Russian Intelligence that they didn't spot the Ukrainian army massing to the north.

At least Ukraine can hopefully recover some of its economy from selling all this stuff. I also would place a wager that some of the MTB's are being shipped off to the US et al for analysis. Guardian are also reporting rumours that brass are leaving the Crimea. The end is nigh? |

Won't the Ukrainians repurpose much of the usable Russian stuff and send in back with pretty bows attached?

Yes and no Even the stuff that is common on the outside isn't common on the inside. The tanks etc will have different communication gear that works need changing then the fire control systems could be entirely different and take far too long to convert. Even the engine and gearbox could be different. But yes I'm sure where they can they will use what they can, even if it is as decoys, again! I'm sure the UK/US/Germany/France would be eager to get their hands on a section of Russian armour and also to test the Russian gun on their armour. Rest of it flog as scrap |

โThe current situation is the result of a combination of thorough planning and preparation, disciplined execution, deception, skilful employment of western-provided weapons, and a Russian force that is exhausted and which has lost the will to fight,โ said retired Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, former commander of the US army in Europe. In the FT. Sounds promising. |

I suspect when this is all over Ukraine will get to join Nato and it'll be able to teach the rest of the alliance a thing or two.

I wonder if Putin will invent some way to 'justify' calling it a war and therefore making more of his troops available.
