I do think I get some benefit as I PBd at half twice and marathon in them. About a minute at each distance. However I saw improvements in training that indicated I could run the times I did. Those training miles and a 5k pb were all done in the flyknit. I previously only ran in heavier road shoes but have found as much benefit from the fly knit which I don’t believe have the same benefits. |

Just catching up here after reading Guardian yesterday where a middle-of-packer took a minute of her 5k pb. Translating that to a marathon where I hover just over 4 hours (bar one sub-four on flat Edinburgh) is tempting. But 250 quid? Yikes... do I really care that much and would it feel like it didn't count?

(Just caught up with the Ross Tucker argument. It would be easier to follow if he would stop using "gaslighting" for every argument he does not agree with, some of which he turned into straw men. More heat than light.)

“ would it feel like it didn't count?”. It shouldn't do, they are legal. Take every advantage you can!

Will you regret it if you don't give them a whirl, ITG? That was my feeling last year when I was racing well for me. I'd never discourage anyone from using technological advances on the basis of their actual or perceived running ability. Yes, there may be more to gain by optimising our training, weight and all that, but those are not the SAME gains as we might get from having springs on our feet, they're ADDITIONAL gains.

I'm waiting for the Alphafly shoes to come out, then when I buy a pair of the Next% shoes, people will think I'm all retro and minimalist.
