And let's have less talk about the "inevitable" slow down after 20 miles, please. Both from CW and folk trying to 'help' ;-).

You might go slower, if something goes wrong physically, mentally, or you do something wrong in the execution. Or it might point to something in your training that needs to be looked at. But it is *not* inevitable - and I don't think anyone should be standing on the start line thinking that way...

What Paul said. Trust the training and get your pacing right.

Not that I've ever managed that myself.

I will be totally honest, in over ninety 26.2 mile marathons I've never achieved the avoidance of slowing down :(

I agree. Believe that you can do this, be disciplined about your pace in the first 20 miles or so and your heart, lungs and legs will be able to keep it going for the 6.2 miles that follow.

My marathon pb was a completely unexpected 4 min negative split and the second half of the second half was a 2 min negative split to the first half of the second half... if that makes sense :-)

Get your pacing and your fuelling right and if it all comes together then anything can happen...

PtB, sorry, I'll try and fix my way of thinking in the next 2 weeks! I haven't gone all-in over a long run so it'll be interesting to see if I can maintain the pace. -I'll certain try my hardest.

I think it comes with experience. Most of my 'run properly' marathons tend to be even paced or a slight negative split. Splitting into thirds tends to give a slower middle third then speeding up from about 18.

Same I've not managed one for about 16 months though.

Yes, good luck Donran. I shall be watching the Berlin Marathon as I assume it will be on TV.

Good luck donran.

Hunts' if you want to watch Berlin I suspect you'll have to find a live stream as it doesn't appear to be on Eurosport (or any of the "normal" channels).
