I'm feeling pretty good overall, had a good performance in the half yesterday where I was trying marathon pacing so didn't go for a PB even though I'm in shape for it. I noticed when I was going a little too hard for a marathon because I wanted to stay with a group. Having developed a feeling for that distinction 'fine for a half but too fast for the full distance' was very encouraging to see. Now the taper proper begins, no more really hard workouts. I hope you can shake the sniffle soon, Mark. I'm still healthy and knock on wood that it stays that way. |

One more long run to come for me, then taper. Roughly 100 miles down on previous two Spring marathons but I’ve still managed a decent block, which seemed unlikely just 12 weeks ago and impossible a month before that. Glass half full: up to 90-120 minutes, ankle pain generally hasn’t got worse on flattish surfaces as the aggregate mileage has built. Glass half empty: 7 hours treadmill last week; the inclines around our Tenerife hotel were just too painful. Still sticking to a 3:29:59 goal. Genuinely not sure how realistic this is. Excited to find out. |

I feel for you @Hills of Death (HOD) we know our bodies pretty well by now. You know. You’ve put a good shift in. Toeing that startline is a big deal in itself in my opinion. I’m taking that as the first victory of the day, if I get there. Huge. In other news, I supported a pal as he took on a 73k challenge, out here in Tenerife, last weekend. My goodness, finish lines are humbling places. It didn’t make me yearn for longer distances, but I shall certainly be using it as inspiration in a few weeks time. As I did to endure a 2-hour dreadmill session yesterday morning🤪 |

Hope all is well aubs🤞 I can now draw up a sunlounger by the pool, next to all of the other ‘taperers’🎉 Far from a convincing last long run this morning, and more than ever it leaves me bewildered as to where or how any additional pace or endurance will be found over the additional distance to come!? But it’s done, and my goodness I’m looking forward to easing back for the next three weeks. Never mind taper madness, let’s have some taper magic please! |

Well done for making it to taper @SailorSteve. Great work considering where you've had to dig from. Enjoy some quieter weeks ahead. 😁

Cheers @Mark J 🇳🇿 it’s been quite the journey. Yep, failing any external drama or events, I’m confident that I’ll get to the startline now, which I’m thrilled for, regardless of the outcome. Three more fizz sessions to come, including one that I’ve termed the “Misery” treatment - named after the (in)famous Kathy Bates/James Caan scene in the movie - it seems to help though😵💫 |

Hey guys sorry for the quiet - all's going well for me, but I've been juggling work with finishing up a part time masters degree plus running so I haven't really been around on Fetch as much as I'd like in order to keep up with people. 😑 Hope everyone is doing ok, I've been in an out of tipsku's blogs and it seems very promising in there! My data from quality long runs and sessions/training data etc suggests that on a day with perfect weather and a perfectly rested and energised me, sub 3:15 is possible but it will be quite marginal. A more realistic goal is perhaps 3:17 or so. I should be able to go sub 3:20 unless I've overcooked it in these last few weeks of training. Generally, my training has been good - I've doubled probably more than is ideal for the mileage I have been doing but it's been necessary to manage my time, it's easier to fit a 4 miler and a 7 miler than it is to run 12 in the evening. Looking forward to August when I'll be free of this course! 😃 |
