Funny you should mention Maffetone though as when I was talking about this a lot over on Runnerโs World a lot in 2020, and getting exasperated having to walk up slopes at times, I was doing regular MAF tests on the flat to try and track improvements. But, in my case, with my max HR, the Maffetone training HR coincided with other methods of calculating training HR, whereas for some it may not.

My training is 85% easy and 15% marathon pace. Looks a lot like your Seville marathon training. |

@xt350 ๐ณ๐ฟ in potentially looking for a 15k in Timmy-Vegas tomorrow lunchtime, do you have any route recommendations at all?

You could try the scenic reserve, it's just on 7.8im around but then add in a run down salt water creek.. to add on. Salt water creek is the body of water you drive over just going out of Timaru south, there are a few km of footpaths around there especially towards the sea. From here you could run to Jacks point light house.. all good surface |

In terms of this thread, I did 21:38 at a flat parkrun in NL yesterday. According to McMillan (with the correct training behind you, etc etc), that equates toโฆ.3:30:48 for the marathon.

16 miles here in NL today, with 108ft of elevation. Last week, I did a very hilly trail 14 miles at home with 2300ft of elevation (I know elevation isnโt necessarily accurate, but it does show the difference between the two runs!). Both took around the same time of 2hr25.

You can definitely convert a 21.xx into a sub 3:30. Just needs appropriate volume - you have a recent marathon in your legs, which will help ๐

Ha, yeah, when fit, I tend to do a few marathons a year. Iโve got about 10 pencilled in for next year. Most I did was 33 in the lead up to joining 100MC in May 2022. Seville 2022 (my PB) was my 98th marathon, but I donโt race them all by any means. The one you probably spotted was NYC, which was my 6th major. But Iโve had PF for over two years and havenโt been running at all well through that, but since NYC Iโm feeling much more confident about upping the mileage a bit. I had one in NL pencilled in for the Sunday just gone, but Iโm not fit enough currently to do them justice, without them overly negatively impacting my training, so I was sensible (for onceโฆ) and opted not to do it. NYC took a lot out of me but Iโm feeling fitter/stronger since then, so all being well I feel I should be starting 2025 in a reasonable place. We shall see how that turns out!
