larkim, yes, besides the 5 planned runs per week, I'm adding two recovery runs with the beginners each week. That's about 6-8 miles per week at 12 m/m pace so they are barely registering in the training load count. Also, I do a couple of 0.5-1.5 miles at recovery pace before I do yoga or strength training to warm up for the session. These show up in my log but don't really add any training stress. So I end up doing 10-12 extra miles every week but all of those are really slow. Some runs were a bit longer than planned, the first long run was 13 instead of 12 and I did a XC race (6 miles with WU) when the plan said 4 miles recovery. |

Eater of hills, I sympathize with that. I'm sometimes struggling with hip or adductor aches after the longer runs. I know that I have to do some exercises to counteract that and I was good the first couple of weeks. Now I didn't do my session on Thursday and I felt that during the final miles of my long run. A long recovery session Sunday night set me straight again, no pain today. I've added two sessions a week to the plan to make sure I keep up with maintenance work. To be on the safe side, I've also switched around the recovery run on Wednesday and tempo on Tuesday to give me another easy day. I hope that taking it easier for a few days will sort you out. Have you had ankle pain before? Do you know what causes it? If yes, is there anything you can do to prevent it from occurring again? |

tipsku I'm thinking it was the trainers I was wearing. Out this morning with a different pair and an ankle strap and felt good. Taking it easy. Fingers crossed I'll be good. Been through much worse. I cross train on my non running days also mostly bodyweight and core strength exercises. Think it is essential. We are very much on the same wavelength which makes me think I'm going in the right direction. 👍

There we go, hit the button last night and entered Munich Marathon. Had absolutely perfect marathon running conditions in 2022, let's hope for the same in October this year helping me on my way to <3:30! |

That's great, good luck with your training and the race. I'm waiting until my club is announcing the sign up for Leipzig marathon. They pay for all entries of club members. |

If it wasn't my wedding anniversary that day, I'd be tempted to join you at Leipzig tipsku

ptr_runner, that's understandable that you prioritize your wedding anniversary. Unless your other half is also a runner and you could run a marathon together to celebrate the day, racing on that special day wouldn't go down well, I suppose 🙂 Eater of hills, that sounds very sensible. I also bought new shoes at the beginning of this training cycle because one of the older pairs needed to be replaced. You're well in tune with your body and listen to any early warning signs. I think that's really important to survive marathon training unharmed and make it to the start line in good shape. |

tipsku It's sometimes hard to discern whether discomfort is a niggle or an injury. I usually decide niggle and keep my fingers crossed.🤞

This week's long run is going to be an interesting affair. My only real opportunity to do the 22km is tomorrow. Tomorrow I'm running to work in the morning, which will make for a very early start, and a tired day in the office!
