Eater of hills, I'm hoping the same and if I react immediately to it (like changing the trainers, doing some specific exercises, reducing intensity for a few days), it usually remains a niggle and doesn't develop into an injury. Most injuries start as niggles. Good luck with your long run, ptr_red nose runner, I hope you can fit it in and you're not too tired. |

Well the long run didn't happen. My 1 year old kept us up til gone midnight, so I pushed my alarm back an hour and only ran the 8.5km direct to work. I might have time on Sunday evening to get the long run done.

Adequate rest is also a key part of a marathon training plan.

Confidence-building 18 in a smidge under 3 hours for me this morning, on packed snow/ice trails in -8°C. Beautiful, if a little chilly.

Well done, Steve. P&D told me 15 today. I feel that's less than I'd like but it's still January and I'm averaging a tick over 50 miles per week, so I'll trust the process.

Sounds good Oscar. Knocking that mileage off regularly and feeling good puts you in exactly the right place I reckon👊 I’d like to be getting closer to 50’s now, but prevailing conditions mean that I focus on “time on feet” and effort level as much as mileage. Hopefully I’ll get the mileage up for the same effort level as the weather warms up in March. |

Great running, Eater of hills and Steve, 16 and 18 miles respectively this weekend. My P&D says 12 today which is enough as I raced a 10 km yesterday and got a new PB, 11 seconds off the time on the same course 5 years ago. I'm feeling okay, I'm not sore but I wouldn't really want to go longer than 2 hours. It stopped snowing a couple of hours ago so I'm going to give it a go. Next weekend, I'm going to do the first 18 miler. |

tipsku Cheers Tipsku. Picked up a bit of an injury on the long run. Pushed too hard to meet the p&d target pace when I wasn't feeling it. Bit stupid I know. Inner thigh pain, thinking hip adductor. Stretching helped massively but felt it again when I started to run. Bike for a few days and maybe physio at the weekend. 18 miles no problem for you. Stay safe.

I'm sorry to hear this. I know the problem, my adductors are a known weak spot and they sometimes get tight and achy when I run over 10 miles. In that case, I dropped the pace and finished the run slower. The first couple of weeks of the plan, I felt it after the Thursday and Sunday runs. Since then, I've scheduled recovery yoga after each run over 10 miles and so far, I'm doing alright. I hope your stretching programme helps you to recover and you're back running soon. In the meantime, biking is a good alternative, as I've commented on your training. Keep up the aerobic exercise 👍🏼 |
