Super run, Steve. Pleasure to meet you, too.

Very apparent for me that the pace wasn't on today, stuck with it to half way and died a slow inevitable death. Nonetheless, 3.48 was an honest effort. Big positive split indicating where the fitness is, but something to build on.

The 3.30 pacer decided Farrell was the name of the game. I went through 10 miles bang on pace and I hadn't seen him for 5 plus miles. Just shows good pacing is an art form!

Oscar - I didn’t fancy the cut of that pacer’s jib when he passed me going up the slight incline of the early bridge. “No need to be putting in a relative ‘effort’ so early on there”, was my immediate thought.

Glad you got it done, and as you say, onwards.

Thanks folks. In my previous post, Farrell= fartlek!!!

Also, if you ran 3.21 and the 3.30 pacer passed you.... yikes. He had decimated the 3.30 group by 4 miles. Very odd.

Difficult to see a scenario where that's anything other than a massive cockup by the pacer. You can forgive a few miles maybe if they've messed up their watch settings, but that's really unforgivable.

Essentially, he took us through 5k in 25.30, give or take. So he was behind pace by probably 45 seconds. Instead of running a series of 7.50-55, he MUST have gone 7.30 for mile 4 as I ran 7.45 and lost 20-30 metres on him. I get it is not easy but use your head! As for going past Steve - the bridge he describes is at c.9 miles - that rather suggests he just carried on at a comfortable pace for him. Last time I ran Newport, the 3.30 pacer kept the group together until THEY (we) failed, not him. There was the odd surge but nothing like this. Although to be fair, most realised quickly and did their own thing.

Congratulations Steve on an excellent result and improvement since London!

Well done Oscar, a fine effort and not a bad time at all in the scheme of things. Shame about the pacer, I can't imagine he had anybody staying with him...

I suspect he was quite lonely, Clare!!

Thanks - given a few missed/slow weeks due to injury, I'm content the effort was there.

But as you say, Steve's result was excellent!
