WW - welcome. I would say it is entirely possible for you to go 3:15 first time out. My opinion is that you can't do too many long runs, but there is a danger of losing motivation and getting a bit tired if you overdo it. The main thing is to find a schedule that suits you, Pfitzinger, Hal Higdon, etc. there's lots around. I would also plan in a few races during training to guage what sort of shape you're in so that you can decide on a marathon pace.

3:15 off a 1:27 half is more than possible if the right training is put in, indeed you could be a fair bit under 3:15. I managed 3:09 off a 1:29 half a few years back

WW - welcome, as the others have said about getting the training right and make sure the lsr's are done at a slow pace (yip coming from me, I know but I am trying) Your other times aren't bad either

Hi WW - you seem to have good natural speed, clocking those times in your first year or so. Stay fit, and you can certainly go sub 3:15 first time.If you can run 40-50mpw solidly from Nov to March, 70-80% of it easy paced, and with a long run once a week building to a 20+ every week in Feb and Mar - you'll be closer to 3.00 than 3:15.

thanks for the encouragement folks, that's all good advice. I've been out for a bit over the summer (experiment with some 'deadly' shoes) so I'll just look to get fit before the winter and then up the SLOW mileage. I assume that you all continue to throw in some good strong base training: intervals, hills, fartlek, etc - I feel like this is required to meet my other target of a 1:25 HM in the build up. I'll track your Autumn progress and then re-join what I expect will be quite an active board later this year....

Ran 11.4M tonight, of which the first 9 were progressive working my way from 8:20mm down to 6:40mm. Felt good and strangely really enjoyed it (as did the other 2 club runners who ran with me). Tomorrow is a much needed sports injury massage before my first HM of the year on the IoW on Sunday.
Hope training is going well for every one else.

B Rubble - why do they ask for a medical certificate for Paris?? Never heard of that before. Not that it's a problem, but I just wondered!
Off to Race the Train in Wales tonight (race tomorrow) so quite looking forward to that, in a sadistic way.. Then off to the States working for 2 weeks. Looking forward to my Central Park 14mile training run on the weekend! Oh, and a sneaky bit of shopping while the dollar is up a bit...
