I have about 15 years worth of ballot rejections

I'm happy to get a rejection from London, opens up potential for a race I've never done.
Tbh I only entered because I was bored walking home from town when the application came out 😉

I do feel bad! I think this is fourth time lucky on ballot, though I was lucky last year with the gfa inconsistency that I benefited from.
I presume if I take the ballot place up then that gives me deferral options. Whereas if I let it go and take up gfa instead I'd be locking myself into a one shot entry.

Take the ballot place - less hastle plus you can put in your predicted time anyway and you should be allocated a suitable pen for starting!

Just quite enjoyed having a different coloured bib last year (even though I technically didn't deserve it!)
I'm guessing this wasn't previously a "thing" when the GFA time was a hard line that guaranteed entry.
Started on my Hanson plan-based approach to Eryri over the last two weeks with an odd 6x800m at MP off 400m recovery. A long way out from the marathon, so I guess this is really intended just to be an easy introduction to intervals, but they don't ramp up that much faster throughout the whole plan anyway as the fastest they prescribe is intervals at 10k pace with most of their intervals a) being long ones (i.e. multiples of 1 mile or more) and b) being either at MP or MP-10s.
Felt odd repping at that sort of pace, though equally chastening that on the 6th one I was seriously questioning how I'd run 26 miles at that pace just a few months ago!

Yeah Stoo has it right for you there lark. Congrats!
I think if I was running such short reps at MP I’d have to avoid the temptation to run them too fast.
Just back from my own MP session in which I completely blew up. I’ve been trying to supplement the run training with a bit more core work and this is 2 weeks in a row now where I’ve really had no legs the day after a core session. Hoping by the 3rd week I will identified a cause and effect here!!

I’ve started doing occasional interval sessions (club has restarted them) and it’s sore

I did an interval session on Tuesday and really felt the burn in the lungs. I've not felt that in a few years mainly down to my own laziness and cba'ness. Toying with the Idea of an autumn half to help focus the mind as I've nothing in the calendar and will no doubt end up in another lackluster summer of training!

Sample of 1 activity so far on the dreadmill, set the pace to around 8:30 pace based on what the readout showed and no incline applied. Garmin's treadmill function (which I think is basically cadence based as that is the only real input it has) estimated the pace at about 9:30.
I know running on a treadmill is not exactly the same as running outdoors so looking for experience of what measures or metrics you'd use to get a sense of what might be the closer measure of the actual experience.
The input factors for me last night were:- - treadmill pace at 8m30 pace - watch estimated pace at 9m26 pace - HR average at 133bpm - HR beats per mile on treadmill pace 1,136 - HR beats per mile on Garmin pace 1,254 - Cadence 178
Outdoors at the moment I've generally been running about 8:20 pace ish and HR has been around 138-140 for that, with beats per mile around 1,180, cadence around 182.
So it looks like the treadmill pace over-stated it a bit, but the garmin pace under-stated it a bit.
I've read adding incline can be good for bringing the treadmill effort in line with outdoor effort so I'll give that a go (though I also read that that really only kicks in at higher speeds due to the impact of wind resistance on real world running) and that easy efforts can feel easier on a treadmill, whereas hard efforts can feel harder. I guess I just need to get used to it and settle on a measurement that I'm happy with.
I suppose what I'm saying is that if I don't want to sell myself short by using the treadmill if it is actually giving me an easier workout based on the numbers that the screen is reporting back to me. A bit of experimentation is required! (And a default position of running outside and not using the treadmill wherever possible!)

I go for 1-2% incline, sometimes more if I really want to get the HR up during intervals and so on. But it’s hard to get it to really match outside conditions/effort. I just have gotten used to having the treadmill as a run like compliment and not reading to much in on the numbers I get. It’s better than no running anyhow.
