It might be for sure Matthew, and everyone is a bit different. But you have done some very speedy work now and then as well? I still think it will come, with consistency.

Anecdotally there are some people who only train seriously when they are aiming at a marathon
Though I think one or two parkrun PBs were a couple of weeks *after* the marathon, which counts similarly.
My 5k PB was a short course which can happen at any time!

Probably not the right time of year to be thinking this thought. But treadmill - not got one, never really run on one, but looking to avoid excuses when it's tipping it down in dark winter nights. Birthday coming up - is it worth it?

I like mine lark, gives me an option on rare occasions. I like it more now that I've got WiFi in the garage and I can watch the YouTubes of all those influencers that BigG introduced me to, LOL!!
I bought quite an expensive, brand new NordicTrack one as I had to spend some money on a 'gift' from work. Having been in the garage for a fair few years now it still works well but the speed is a bit of a random number generator. I'm sure that there's a way to fix this but that would take some energy!
I think JDA has some good experience of buying 2nd hand which I reckon would be very sensible.

Yes, read jda's advice elsewhere. 2nd hand is trickier to buy of course to get the "right" thing. Not completely sold that I'd use it, but we've got a wifi-capable garage and the thought of being able to crack through a load of movies or similar whilst running is quite appealing!

The treadie helped me to get more miles in for sure during the less exiting darker and colder months. Iβm fortunate enough to have one at the office, witch no one but me use.

I did 2nd hand twice (the board gave up on one, the belt on the other) which worked well for several years each but be aware that they are exceptionally large and heavy loads to shift and install.
Last winter when the 2nd one failed I found a decent offer on a new one in a shop sale and it's very pleasant to run on. Even for the knockdown price it was still twice the two second hand ones combined.
Only occasional use for me, maybe once a week in the winter, but definitely worth having when you get those miserable spells of bad weather. Probably if I was still working and unable to pick my running times during daylight it would get more use before or after work.
Getting in some miles when there's something you want to watch on the telly is definitely a thing to do. Harder to do stuff like read email and surf the web.

That's interesting WW - I bought a fairly expensive (to me anyway) Nordic track during lockdown and have always thought the pace has been somewhat unkind. I don't for a second believe I work harder for the pace on a treadmill than the roads. I'm considering getting them in to give it a service and get it calibrated!
Larkim, handy piece of kit for the winter!
