Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I find my HR strap, Garmins HRM Pro Plus, works pretty good in measuring distance on the treadmill, and is not that much off the feel and effort, with a % or two incline, and many use Stryd of course. The speed set on the treadmill I use, is all over the place.

This one, no longer available new. It's about the right price/performance point for a serious runner on a budget. IMO.

Pro-Form Performance 600i Folding Treadmill

ebay.co.uk

Anything much lower spec may be v wobbly and a bit rubbish. Above and you're paying for whistles and bells.

Thanks for that jda - found this which looks pretty comparable https://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk/horizon-7-0at-folding-treadmill.html# and had half decent reviews so with an extra discount applied given it a punt.

Of course, not really the weather to be using it when it comes in a couple of weeks, but better to have it there waiting for the winter than be sat on my backside on a wild night when I could have had 45 minutes in the garage watching something interesting.

Nearly had full on irony, Alanis Morrissette style, in unpacking the new treadmill. Not only was it delivered by a two person team that had forgotten their wheelie truck, and we're too weak between them that my wife had to help, then they delivered it upside down so unpacking it pulled something in my back and had a terrible night's sleep so expected to have scuppered any ability to actually run on it.

Fortunately though the back is still very sore, running was ok tonight.

ugh!! Do look after yourself lark!!

Quite often I’ll be out running in the rain in the dark and about half way round I’ll think about the treadmill that I’ve got at home. Hardly ever at the start of a run though. Doh!!

Are you going to get in to the whole footpod / treadmill pace / real life pace whirlpool? I think there are some dark places to go there….

Treadmill would have been handy today and would have avoided another trip and fall. I have the shopkeeper unloading his van a fright but no harm done. Big bruise on my left knee which worried me. Lost skin on the other and that the sorest now. No real harm done though.

Oh Baz. Get yerself retired and give yourself a wider choice of conditions!! Hope you are ok…

I have to admit that I’m in training for Chicago now. Ran a 20 last week and the MP sessions start soon so it’s already getting pretty real. Feels like I’m a bit ahead of schedule which is something that’s not necessarily a good thing (peak early, get stale) but the reality is that August is just going to be so hard to find quality training time around hols. I deserve hols of course and shouldn’t complain!!

First thing I need to do is work out what running paces in kmh are! Why oh why they come with that setup, given that no-one who runs outdoors works in kmh (k/min is understandable) baffles me. Though the one I've got can display miles/min as a pace too.

But yes, I'm sure I will think about that rabbit hole. Will definitely try to check calibration initially, but hopefully avoid footpods etc. Plenty of tech to play with though!

Ouch Baz - I'm still amazed that in 10+ years of running I've not had a tumble yet, perhaps you just pick up everyone else's fair share of them.

And good to hear goal-based progress there WW. I've tentatively started on a Hanson-style plan for Snowdonia, but it feels such a long way away and I've got lots of additional stuff on at weekends at the moment that it's a struggle to really feel like I'm in a programme just yet. It will come!
