Pre-Covid, I was at the stage where I was checking locations for foreign marathons and using the event as an excuse to go to that place. For example, Sofia and Marrakech were nice surprises for a weekend away, with a marathon thrown in for good measure ![]() |

I know I won't be far enough within the cut off to get a place, but I have at least put in my GFA application for 2023's London Mara. Just to be in a position to put in the application is good enough for me! Don't know when it opened (I might have missed it opening a while back), but in case anyone else wanted to do the same it is here:- tcslondonmarathon.com |

Why do you think that Larks? 3:08 at M50 I would be suprised if it didnt get in. Then again was your mara done at 49, I cant rememeber (if so I am with you and unlikely) Just do another at 50 if that is the case and think you will stand a decent chance. |

I’m 46. What do people think my chances are with 3:06:14?

And yes, I'd have to train and run as a MV50; which I could do, but I'm not yet wholly convinced I can be bothered!

@Big_G - I am trying to find what it ended up for this years but cant seem to find anywhere on London Marathon website. Think it was 3:07 or thereabouts. I would say you have more chance than not! @larkim I reckon you will be bothered ![]() |

Daz, I think they removed the actual times for Oct, possibly to avoid confusion for 2023’s edition? I don’t know though. Someone mentioned to me if it’s possibly slightly more complicated this year because a) potentially more deferrals due to Covid and b) the champs standard getting harder, possibly pushing more into GFA?

I don’t know if it’s just some of the YouTubers I watch, but the Boston Qualifier is a big thing, isn’t it, yet the standard for that is quite a lot easier (3:20 for me, rather than 3:10). I know it’s totally different to London, because the whole race is made up of qualifiers, isn’t it, but the BQ seems to be a massive thing over in the US. I love London, but Berlin is the only other major I’ve done. I hope this isn’t coming across as elitist, but for me there was a very different feeling to that race. Virtually everyone around me were club runners, and it just had a different feeling about it, in some ways better. As I say, I love London though, but they’re just different races. |
