Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Well done matthew - great way to treat the race, and you should indeed take confidence from that.

I still get nervous in races. But in a good way! Just a 10K yesterday, but enjoyed planning my journey to get there in good time, my food, drink before, my warm up (takes longer now as I am old and have various creaky bits!), my kit, number pinned on, my new shoes (finally succumbed to the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next% things!), seeing loads of pals from various clubs and events, setting my Garmin screen to show me the paces I wanted, setting off steady, picking it up a bit, shouts out to pals ahead and behind in the race (one part is an out and back), trying to finish strongly, excitement of seeing a time a bit quicker than I was hoping for, race debrief with pals and photos with club mates, home for a shower and well earned laze about. Love a race day!

Best of luck at Chester marathon. :-) G

No one doing Berlin this year? Club mate of mine was doing 10 miles around the 10K as part of long run on tired legs, and she is doing both Berlin in 2 weeks and Chicago 2 weeks after that. Wowsers! :-) G

I see MarathonTalk is rising like a Phoenix from the flames.

Linked to Abbott WMM I think (presumably £££) with Deena Kastor as the co-host with Martin Yelling.

It ran out of steam previously, but hopefully with some actual marathons being run and at the core of the programme it has the chance to be good again.

This talk of racing has me back in the mood again. Other than parkrun and a couple of small 10ks on the parkrun route I have not run a race since pre Covid. In fact it was Abingdon 2019 :-)

I had wondered tentatively about Edinburgh marathon, much as I hate it and the organisers :-O

Happy G, not doing Berlin, but looking at options of seeing if it’s possible to do the Boston and London double next April. I’ve ran two marathons in a week on numerous occasions, but the logistics of the flights adds an extra dimension in terms of the travelling. Travelling is tiring! Plus, Boston is very expensive for accommodation so it may not happen in any case. I think from my Seville time I should probably get into both, so it is an option that I am considering. But I am still injured (although I’ve been given the all clear to tentatively restart running), and paying out for something like Boston when not actually running properly seems odd. But I’ve got a refundable hotel booked for both, so we shall see. It’s by no means guaranteed at the moment and if I did them they wouldn’t be fast attempts I wouldn’t expect.

Anyone else done both consecutively before? Any tips, particularly around accommodation etc for Boston? I’ve got a place booked in Quincy but it is really a bit too far out, although it is affordable.

I was supposed to be doing Oslo this coming weekend, but I cancelled that and got a full refund for everything, which was fortunate. Also cancelled Chester and managed to get rid of my place, so not lost any money there. I do have Nice-Cannes booked and paid for, and I will travel to that as it’s a club trip, but it’s very much up in the air on if I actually run it.

I'm thinking of doing more marathon touristing in the future, maybe. Thinking April Hamburg marathon.

Boston London double sounds fab Big_G. Good luck. :-) G

Happy G, I’ve been lucky enough to have quite a few abroad. For me, it’s a massive part of my ‘marathon journey’ and I love the travel aspect of it.

Yes, they all bring something different. An early season one like Malta can be good as accommodation etc is cheap and although it is chilly at night, the daytime temperature is pleasant. Also been to Paris, Rome, Prague, Amsterdam and Mallorca marathons. As I say, each brings something different but enjoyed them all as trips per se.
