I have a 10k on Sunday 18 easy off road but sufficiently different that PB times should be irrelevant. Trying to spend this off time looking at how to schedule my training around work and feel I am getting the balance of when to do hard sessions long runs and rest days about right now |

Maybe P&D need to issue a 52 week training plan Baz. I definitely need the discipline of a plan and the pressure of a scheduled event to motivate me into doing any sort of speed work.

I agree fergus. If there is no race to target I will just run with no real focus. If I knew there was something to aim at I might run a bit more focussed on whatever the distance is.

I suspect you'll struggle to find much in Scotland for the time being Bazo. If I was really stuck I'd organise a time trial just within the club, I bet about 10 would turn out for it. But I've got a half in a couple of weeks (which seems to be going ahead) and I'm mostly having a try-out of zwift for a change anyway so not quite so fussed about running. *Lots* of races on zwift ![]() |

One of the problems is even if you enter an event their is no guarantee it will go ahead. I have been looking at the science of running book marathon schedule and it is over more weeks than P+D and would be a mid November start for Boston UK in April next year

Interesting to see that Bennachie Ultra is still on tomorrow - will require participants to drive from far and wide (though as with all ultras, it's pretty small entry numbers).

Yes riggsy I'd be wary about taking on a marathon training plan right now but a last-minute tune-up for a half (on the back of a mixed bag of training) is a different order of risk. If it gets cancelled at the last minute I'll just do a bike ride instead.

Baz, with your normal high volume of training miles, do you not fancy a spring ultra for a change. You could target a local one, say the John Muir Way ( 50k foxtrailscotland.co.uk ) and if it doesn't happen, just run it anyway - I mean in an ultra it's effectively just you against the clock anyway most of the time. You could include some recce runs on the course over the winter to switch things around a bit - although I appreciate with you not driving then would need to call on the missus, or use public transport. It would also be a great training base to take into spring/autumn for the 2021 London marathon. |

Oops - that should have been "summer/autumn" at the end
