Entries opened today for one of the few half marathons available in the spring marathon buildup. Was hoping for earlier in March but it's going to 15th March which is 3 weeks out from Manchester.

Would really like a half as part of the plan so probably going to have to enter this one and maybe not go all out, means I can do the last longer long run the weekend before so might still have fatigue from that anyway.

What's the consensus just enter it rather than miss the opportunity to race a half at all?

Yeah B2C would be good as it's very local, Inverness is a good option but more a trek.

@daz - I think the idea is that you pick your own max mileage so you could pick say 41 mpw, and then the balance of mileage would be different compared to someone who can manage 55mpw. That's why I set it up that way, so you can pick the right mileage for you individually.

I used to think Bazo was slacking a bit ( :-P ) by doing standing rests between efforts in the tempo, MP or intervals, but hey, it's very much worked for him and his 2:59 so I'll hold my tongue!

In P&D, I always thought of the rest periods in tempos, intervals and MP as dropping down to jog or general pace, but not stopping. Except some intervals, which have been proper hands on knees, doing well to remain upright, sort of style of recovery! :-) G

I'll add the 41-55mpw 2Q plan at some point today or tomorrow, but it has the same description of tempo intervals being interrupted by rest, and I had the same thought that HG did that that explains why Baz's blogs talk about rests in between tempo miles.

My plain reading of the plans is that he does mean stationary rest, as for the intervals he prescribes jogged recoveries, so he clearly sees a difference. It's only for the 2x2T or 3x1T that he puts a rest in between, if it is 1E + 3T + 1E etc etc he seems to expect the sort of continuous session that I'd normally do.

I doubt there's much harm in gently jogging for a minute in place of absolute stationary rest. But interesting that it has changed between the two editions of the book.

On that 4week plan, one thing that caught my eye about the rests is that in week 2 it is 3x1T with 1 min rest, week 6 it is 3x1T with 2 min rest and week 10 it is 3x1T with 3 min rest. Could be a typo I suppose.

I type the stuff into a spreadsheet first before transferring to fetch - that's here docs.google.com for both the 41-55mpw 2Q and the 4 week version.
