EL Bee ef a Fetch former celeb. Because he can't run properly now he's dropped off Fetch radar a bit.
Interesting variations in new P&D. Thanks for sharing.
Clare, remember 3.15 woman is equivalent of a 2.55 man. Proven by WAVA. Your 3.15 goal is as big an achievement. Work for it and be proud. G

This discussion plus Baz's feat last week encouraged me to update my editions of both P&D and JD. I've not really looked at P&D yet. Looking at JD the 3rd edition has a lot more and different marathon plans from the second edition. I had a couple of questions.
First, probably for jda and Baz, but others if they use JD - when you say you follow a JD marathon plan which one are you following?
Second question for anyone with a suitable Garmin watch. What does it report as your VDOT and how does that translate into race performance? My Garmin currently reports 51 (just coming back into training after a couple of months of reduced mileage). Back in July on the back of a solid few months of training it had been up to 55.

A third question, which may be for fetch, is whether VDOT is or can be imported from the watch and so tracked over time in fetch rather than Garmin connect.

I'd put last one as a feature request then marshal some VDOT fans to vote for it?

Cheers, HG, done. I found a whole world of fetch I didn't know existed.

I use the standard 2Q plan from the 2nd edition which is basically a large volume of threshold running (within those two quality sessions). It looks like the 3rd edition is broadly similar but a bit fussier in terms of different interval lengths and a range of speeds. However I also usually do a weekly club interval session which probably covers the higher speed stuff if its useful (ie 1-3 min intervals with substantial rest).

My garmin vo2 is now up to 61 again, it was down to 55 over the summer and has climbed steadily over the 12 weeks of training. I think I might have seen 62 in the past, it bounces around a bit but that's about as high as it ever gets. Also predicting a 2:40 marathon for me.
As you can imagine, I take these numbers with a pinch of salt

jda, agree absolutes may not be right, but the relatives seem a reasonable fit. My training paces when at 55 were as suggested by JD for 53, and now at 51 suggested training paces for 49 look about right.

I cant recall the exact variation I use, but its like the 2Q plan that JDA uses but is maybe the one up from that. They are all based on same broad approach.
Sat with my feet up now after a gruelling 9 miles ! Its on my lost to review the book later and start to sketch out a plan for London and if I remember I will post which of the plans it was I follow once I check.

Thst answers my MotM question Bazo - will you just enjoy future maras not worry about time, or get straight back on it for 2020? Need to think of a different one now! G
