Had a listen to the marathon talk episode (No 207) that larkim mentioned a few post ago with the Pete Pfitzinger interview whilst doing my 10 mile general aerobic run. Very interesting and worth a listen for anyone training for a marathon in my opinion no matter what plan you are following.
Run last night was mainly off road and for most of it needed head torch on. Slowed down/stopped at one point to watch a barn owl quartering a nearby field (was actually on the old pit top so was looking down on it). Did 10*100m strides in last mile or so.

Nice 5k tonight ,not as quick a course as next weeks but still pretty fast,17:57 which was a minute faster than last year,km splits were nice 3:36,37,38,38 and a downhill sprint for 3:29.
Hoping to beat it at Mid-Cheshire next thursday.

Very tidy 5k indeed Ian5.

Riggsy, I listened to the Pete Pfitzinger interview on the way home, having not really followed a plan in any of my marathons I’m more tempted than ever to give P&D a try for London 2020. If I do it’ll be the 18 week plan, and I reckon it’d have to be the 70-85 plan (gulp)

In case you missed it, GFA times needed bettering by 2m40 (men) and 4m15 (women) to secure a place this time around. So no point in targeting 3:09 if you're a 45-49yo male this autumn / next spring.

I wonder how many people missed out. Interesting that the cut for women was quite a bit bigger.

A couple of folks from my club missed out, including one guy who ran a heroic 2:58 in Rotterdam where I, and a good few others melted. Very harsh, and while conditions on the day are always in the lap of the gods, with a definite target you at least have a chance. With the new system you just never know what is required, and he would be behind plenty that ran 2:57 on a lovely cool day in London when his run was I'm sure "better"

Blimey! If I'd applied I would have made the cut by three whole seconds :-O

I wonder whether people would prefer tougher target with a guaranteed place, versus an easier target but a limit on numbers? There will probably be a lot of people thinking they could have gone 30s quicker if they knew they had to...
