I think within Fetch, Gobi is happy for his advice to be shared (as long as it is in correct context). Also, if you PM him, or specifically ask him to pop in this thread, he'll usually be happy to offer his insight too. One of the great things about Fetch, having qualified coaches, experienced (better!) athletes (in his case, in one!) and also physios, doctors etc. to offer their info and support. :-) G

So let's talk about glute training. We all know our glutes are crap. So how many of us have done, prolonged, specifically focused glute training? And how did it work for you? Faster, slower, stronger, less injury prone/more injury prone?

(I've been doing it for a year, and the results for me are slightly surprising and not quite what was expected).

It looks like we've all been talking out of our ar$e for a long time in here.

Just noticed that our illustrious leader PtB has not deemed a single post worthy of replacing the sidebar POTM since it was last updated in Feb 2018. That's over 7200 posts, over a period of 18 months, of complete drivel !

As you were, carry on chaps and chapesses :-p

(^) *arse* *backside* *glutes* Perhaps that POTM thing didn't really take off. If I just call it a 'pinned' post, I can leave it there without the thread (and me) looking like it doesn't care :-)

Intrigued what Chris' surprising glute training results have been...? Having to buy new jeans? Admiring glances in Tesco?

Interesting looking at the graphs comparing peoples training for different races.
Would be interesting to see what training people do between marathon schedules and how that effects marathon times.
I am about four weeks into my training for Nov marathon and spent a few weeks before starting training for 10k. My last marathon pace run was 20 secs a mile quicker than for my April marathon and I have brought my half time down to 1:30:38 so happy with how things are going

Riggsy I'm between marathon cycles and all I'm doing is training for a few short races, 10ks and HM. Ironically I've found the lack of Marathon long runs does affect my HM times. I'm bringing them back into training now and I'm beginning to notice a difference.

I find that I can ride the marathon fitness for 4-6 weeks post mara and that then I just need to get some decent structure back in to the training. I’m always amazed how the long(er) runs seem to help the short stuff (lets say 5k - 5m). Makes me wince when I see people turn to 200 reps to improve their 5k time but of course nobody’s interested as a set of 200 - 400s looks far sexier on Strava.

PTB - Ha I wish. Well it hasn't made me any faster, it has made me more rhythmic and I run differently up hills (consciously employing the glutes), but it has unbalanced my running. Normally there's a kind of equality between legs/heart-lungs - they both tire at an equal rate. With cycling I see this kind of imbalance, I can power up a hill and then my legs will blow up with lactate long before my HR is near max.

Here the opposite is happening, I can power up hills, but I can put myself into the red now with what feels like a steady pace (I don't think it's because I'm less quick, my strava times up local hills are getting quicker). In fact it's getting the point where it's easier to go up hills as I like the rhythm, the feeling of power, but then my HR is creeping up too quickly. Happened in the race on Friday, 1st large hill I was closing everyone down with what felt like an easy effort, but then got to the top and I'd gone too far into the red and paid for it for the rest of the race.
